Fuck Glade!

Postby ttr738 on 24 Jul 2007, 10:21

Its not because of the rain... I don't mind that. Beat Herder was a complete mud bath a few weeks ago and I had a wicked time.
It's because for 150 quid I want to:
- be able to hear the sound system
- not be practically strip searched at the gate
- not be searched again in the fucking rain, in the chill out area, by the rudest security I've ever seen
- have a water tap next to at least ONE of the toilets
- be able to sit on a bail of hey when there's mud everywhere
- not have to pay 3 quid for a 59p bottle of lucozade
- to have some free help getting out of the car park on the way out, not just a final "fuck you" from some security bitch yelling at us to "keep pushing" because she hadn't organised any gravel or anything on the road to help people get out.

I paid 30 quid to go Beat Herder. 3 quid for a pint and a sausage butty. Banging music. Nice people.
I'll leave Glade to the coked up sloane rangers in future and stick to the real festivals.
Fuck you!

it was 120 quid.
- you must be deaf. Soundsystems were fine (95% of the time)
- people were searched at the gate because that was part of the license agreement.
- fair enough
- toilets next to overkill and top of the hill from ID Spiral had taps next to them
- agree
- bring your own lucozade
- yeah the car park at the end was a bit much, but to be honest it was very extreme conditions and i would have thought hay is in pretty high demand what with most of it being flooded and ruined this year

There seemed in general to be taps up in the camping areas by the toilets, but not by the stages (except the Liquid; and I didn't know about / couldn't find the Overkill one). Which sucks (& it was the same last year!).

Not much to be done about the searches - license condition :-\

was just the overkill stage mate an you honestly can't say the volume was acceptable in there, plus it was popping an crackling at points. Maybe at first they were worried about the stage being unstable, but that stage was far too quiet the whole wknd.

Obvivously the weather wasn't expected to be that bad, but it seemed pretty certain was gonna rain for couple of days. Yet they didnt seem prepared for it at all no straw or any obvious effort to make the site easier to deal with. I understand that once that weather hit us it was probably impossible to get materials & equipment down to deal with it tho.

I turned up at overkill on sat for pinch an stage wasn't open. There was big puddle of mud at front of stage, but didnt look that bad yet no one appeared to doin anything to sort it. In the end me an bunch of randoms got hold of some buckets an cleared the shit ourseleves an pinch played :D That was definitly fav moment of glade. But thats all it took 10 punters to grab some buckets an get stuck in why was no one who was meant to be runnin glade bothering to do anything??

Didn't help that my girlfriend had a fuckin horrible wknd an i cudn't buy wellies or much to eat either! Sunday was good day tho beardyman cheered me my glade up no end haha his bangin version of home&away wis genuis! Other highlights were Tipper, clark, milanese, Mary Anne Hobbs, squarepusher & mala fuckin ripped it quality sets!

Mainly i just feel let down they didnt resolve the issues with soundsystem in overkill, despite assurences there wouldn't be a repeat of last year. I'd like to hear an offical explantaion tho!

Still have to give much respect to everyone who kept it goin an everyone who pulled together an helped each other out thats what the glade is about. Also props for doin their best with toilets things cud have been a lot worst if they hadn't kept emptying them.

i wont be back next year tho coz that was a fuckin nightmare :(

Organiser please read, we loved Glade, the people were the most chilled I have come across for so long. But why is it that with every festival or party like this that claims to be non sponsored etc does it mean that we have to put up with mediocre facilities. It’s a smaller festival that relies on ticket money more than sponsorship. But I think more thought could have gone into the location of the toilets, the fact that the cash machine queue was a total piss take and you had a mission of a walk if you wanted a beer at some points during the festival. I hope this is just taken as constructive criticism as I know a hell of a lot of people thought this too. :(

It's like....
"I know, we have a problem with people banging so many drugs the licence nearly gets revoked"

hmm.... what should we do?

I know...
"Lets not sell beer hardly anywhere so people are more likely to want drugs! ...and then err... Lets not have any water taps around so they all FUCKING DIE!"

Nah, despite my bucket full of scorn I still have a few tea cups of joy... there were some wicked acts playing and apart from the guy who tried to knock my mate's teeth out most people seemed pretty sound :)

how can you blame the organisers for the cash machine queue. cash machine queues at every festival i have been to are long.
What was wrong with the location of the toilets?

yeah thats exactly what i was saying, i love tea. fuck it ill drink it 24 / 7 but when i was parched and wanted a beer it seemed like an endless mission in the mud to find the two bars... they need to think about getting money in peoples hands( in under 2 and a half hours queueing ) and then letting them buy more beer... they may even be able to afford more toilets next year..

Altho I did have a really good weekend I've got to agree with some of the points above...Fair enough people getting searched on entry..I dont agree with it but everyone who got tickets knew it would happen etc...but I really fucking dont agree with seeing people randomly searched all throughout the festival by the police! The security to be honest from what I experienced seemed pretty sound. There were a lot of fucking idiots there who didnt respect the site and seemed oblivious to the fact that drugs are also illegal at festivals..but yet completely unsubtle. For example we had some people camping behind us using nitrous..while security walked past...security simply told them to put it away but the dicks gave them a load of mouth but all he was saying was dont wave it around in front of me ffs. ...I also saw people pissing in the dance tents etc and just some really annoying inconsiderate people...Dont get me wrong..there were some sound people as well..I was just suprised at some peoples behaviour tbh.

Im glad I went but I dont think I'd go back for a couple of years anyway.

Weird - I didn't get searched at all and I came through the gates about 3 times over the weekend. Only vaguely got my ticket looked at as well.
In the tents I was in the sound levels seemed OK except for in liquid for green nuns closing the festival it was ridiculously quiet when in the same tent for shpongle the day before it had been fine.
The lack of preparation for the rain was a bit shit though, no wood chips of hay or metal tracking on the roads, and the toilets nearest where we were camping were never emptied over the whole weekend.
The thing is despite this we all managed to have a good time and I could see how amazing it could have been, had the weather been better. It definitely was not enough to put me off of going again.

I found that in some places where wood chips had been put down after a while it made the sinking-ness worse....

didnt get searched once and i went out and in 4 times!
could have been more bars fo sure, one cider tent and one bar for beer was a bit shit.
cash machines were a joke, 2 cash machines between 14,000 people is not good enough!!!!!
and yeah there were some idiots, seen loads of people just blatantly sniffing shizzle OUTSIDE!

They did lay down metal track and wood chips. It all sank in the mud like everything else.
Also think about the fact people couldn't get in and out of the festival when complaining about the toilets. I dont big tankers are ideally suited to deep muddy ground. What did you want them to do? Airlift the tankers in?
