GLADE 2008 AT WASING?

Postby wobblenut on 23 Jul 2007, 18:06

What are the chances?

The Antiworld site in Aldershot was pretty damn good even if the festival itself was a let down. Still, after that debacle I'd doubt if they would entertain another one of those "dreadful raves".

I like the wasing layout but another site would be nice I heard the backup was in devon if the licence didn't go through!

I really hope it does move. More for the fact that it would be fun to discover it all again! I think some of the magic of going the first time is the discovery and wondering around not knowing what's round the next corner.

The Rushmore site had lots of nice hardstanding areas as well as plenty of trees and woods etc... Also access to the site was a piece of piss and as far as i could make out not too many locals in earshot.

To be honest, I'm not sure if all the talk about a backup option in Devon wasn't just a bluff. It takes a long time to put an application together for a public events licence (especially things like health & safety, evacuation routes etc, which are obviously unique to a particular place and would have to be done all over again for a new site).

There's also a popular rumour that the Glade had some four-year deal to be held at Wasing Estate and then either move somewhere else or (in another version of this rumour) leave the festival business entirely as they were fed up of all the grief.

Well, I've heard different. In a conversation I had with one of the organisers in the weeks before this year's licence hearing, I was very specifically told that they want at all costs to stay at Wasing as they believe it is the perfect location for the festival. They were aware of a highly organised campaign by a small but vociferous group of Nimbies - but were equally aware of strong local support. The organiser I discussed this with saw this as a make-or-break year and if they successfully dealt with the problems raised at the time, there was a possibility of applying for a permanent, on-going licence at Wasing similar to the one that Glastonbury has.

Whether the problems of this year's event will get in the way, time will tell. Personally I think the way they kept an event running so well in what was practically a national state of emergency should go in their favour. But, as we know, there are dark forces out there trying every trick they can to kill the festival.

I don't want it to move for the purely selfish reason that my mate lives in Newbury and going round his for hot food and a shower this morning was so convenient!

Also, these floods (hopefully) won't happen again and next year it'll be back to the usual blistering hot amazingness. Please God, make it so!

I kinda hope it moves from Wasing. Its a good site. But it would interesting to see it somewhere else, preferably with more trees and less neighbours.

If the site acctually recovers from this year in time then possibly it will be there again. To be honest noone can be blamed!! The whole site will need to be ploughed and reseeded, the grass will just never recover!!
Glade 2008 Ill be there!!

Their aint a chance in hell!!! the council didnt want Glade their this year and it was apparently alot of hassle to get a licence. plus, because of the mud and all the problems it caused, I personally cant see the council and the locals lettin it happen again....

I worry about the state of that lake with it's rare dragonflies and stuff... If any sewage got flushed down into it there may be irrecoverable damage. As much as I love the Wasing Estate I wouldn't mind seeing the festival moved elsewhere as it would be fun to explore new ground and have decent sound levels in all the tents.

don't they have connections with the sunrise people (who are running the waveform event)?

i'd love it if they stuck it somewhere like turweston aerodrome (where gc sss was years ago) but that's just 'cos it's local!

not sure if rushmoor borough council will let any dance event onto arena after AW messed it up. was a good site in general, though not as good as wasing, car park was a mile away, needs additional approval from the MoD, & potentially more chavs.

Salx, god knows what car park you used but the one we ended up in was very close. I reckon it was about third of the distance of the main Glade car park and it was gravel and hardstanding not grass (= mud).
