Glade organisers reccomending people to leave on the sunday

Postby Inastate_ on 24 Jul 2007, 13:00

On Sunday when the Origin stage closed the Glade organisers made an announcement saying that there was a weather warning and a massive storm was due again. They reccomended that people left that night and although me and someone else from the campsite weren't arsed my mate wanted to leave thatcham that night (and his mates) and our campsite was absolutely deserted. About 6 tents full of people had left early on the monday.

We ended up going to stay at a friends house near London and I haven't heard what it was like yet. Was there a storm and did anyone have additional trouble leaving on the monday?

It was already raining (relatively lightly) by 8am on the Monday. I was off the site by about half past noon, so dunno if there were storms later in the day.

yea when we got back to my girlfriends house and checked the local weather it became apparent that it was just a tactic to start the massive job of getting the site clear early.

Dodgy tactic if that's the case. Haven't they heard the story of the Boy Who Cried Wolf?

I hope he doesn't cry wolf too loudly. I'm half a mile from a river on critical flood alert....

They made the same announcement at the main stage too, they read out what ended up on the laminated posters around the site later that evening.

There were more severe weather warnings in place, and thats what they were, warnings. The MetOffice can only predict what nature is going to throw at us, so if theres a chance of another flood, it was a good thing that they made people aware of the chance, and we all made our own decisions based on that.

It was raining at 4:30am monday morning when i woke up to clear the campsite :)
Thank you, your tickets have been activated.

And it did indeed rain (lightly) for much of the morning. No idea what happened in the afternoon, as I was long gone by then. :)
