Hints from Biff of Breaksday

Postby Sperge on 06 Apr 2006, 07:19

Some of you might have already seen Biff's post on other forums. For the benefit of those who haven't, this is what he had to say:

"We have nailed every thing except Saturday night main tent where we are waiting for the headline act to confirm, Friday main tent is nuts, especially for lovers of a city called Detroit.... Sunday will throw up a few surprises and we should be confirming the closing act (a true dance legend) in the next few days.
The Breaksday tent is awesome with some thing for every one, the Psy Trance line up is world class."

Detroit - woohoo, does that mean Richie Hawtin, Derrick May, Juan Aktins, Kevin Saunderson et al or maybe Jeff Mills, UR crew, Carl Craig and Drexciya

Heh, well some of those names have already been bandied around. ;)

I hope the Detroit mention will stop all the "why isn't there a techno tent?" moans now. Would be nice if Carl Cox plays too. :)

It's definitely a good step having some detroit-y stuff this year but that's not all there is to techno at all... I don't know if anyone else feels the same way but it would be good to see some of the UK's own techno lot at the glade, why not give them a look in?

DAVE the drummer, the liberators, Mark EG, Jerome Hill, Paul Langley, Mark Hawkins, James Ruskin, Dirty Bass, Esther Ofei, Alex Calver... I could go on all day, there's a huge, huge list of UK techno DJs and producers who would rock the glade and the whole lot of them seem to be totally overlooked.

Again, I don't know about anyone else but to me this lot ^^^ are music to party to, the detroit sound is music to stroke your beard and shuffle around looking at your feet to... and if I'm in a field in the sun I know which I'd prefer.

Anyway I'll shut up because the glade is ace regardless and I'm not the negative type, this is just my 10p worth and if you don't ask... you don't get. :P

and didnt biff from breaksday that the line up would be published at the end of last week?

i think the idea has worn thin now. the tickets have virtually been all sold, why are they delaying their line up as other festivals are showing off theirs?

for instance, on exactly the same dates, in the melt festival in germany, there will be aphex twin and nathan fake playing.

Because they don't need to.

They want to attract people who are there for the vibe, not people who are only interested in the headliners. :)

There's no reason why anyone can't do more than one festival over the same weekend, if they are on different days, or even the same day.

AFX played last year, though, which i think is a better reason to think he might not do this one.

ive only seen him twice (both times were fucking rhuuude!), and every downloaded mixes ive heard have been totally awesome. the analords' series provided some v, cool dazey tunes too. He was supposed to be playing at the glade stage in glasters 04 but he decided last minute not to play :( , got stuck in mud or something..i can never remember that story.

His set at last year's Glade was rockin.

I normally don't get on with him cos I just like to dance and he's usually a bit bleep and whistle.

Doesn't appear to give a fuck about his crowd tho, I agree.

He was a bit better than good.

He was also unbelievable in 2004, when he f**ked off Glasto cos they wouldn't let him camp in the artists enclosure as it was full. He played a load of head-numbing bleepy shit, as you say, then swept into a full-on glitch techno masterpiece that had the main tent going nuts. After Squarepusher, it's EXACTLY what we needed.

I think he's gained a nice respect for Glade as a result of the difference in attitudes... in fact my 2004 Glasto experience never happened, for similar reasons, and look where I was last summer, and look where I'll be this summer. :D

If you don't like the attitude, then you're missing the point. Be thankful he's graced us with actual music for 2 years running... did you catch any of the Smojphace stuff live? Brutal. Makes sandpaper sound like Sugababes! ;)
