Hmmmm....my mixed opinions

Postby TangentGirl on 26 Jul 2007, 12:20

I got told about Glade in April and had been all excited about it since then...

I was so disappointed by it though :(

Those of you who have met me will know I'm not really a mud kinda girl...but that was only the half of it. The times bein all fucked up so I didn't get to see half the people I wanted to was a big thing that got on my nerves, as was the fact I can't dance in mud...it just didn't seem to have much atmosphere I didn't think...like people all seemed a bit cross and grumpy and tired.

I'd definitely go again, as I have heard such good things about it, but I can't help but feel the while thing was a comlete anticlimax...don't get me wrong...I had some great giggles, but that was due to the fact I was with my mates...

Oh I dunno...someone tell me I'm not alone in thinking this or alternatively, that next year'll be better. :(

I see what you're sayin, all the things that went wrong with the production excetera were frustrating, Luke Vibert not being there pissed me right off, but I knew what to expect from the festival so I had an amazing time.
Not be rude, but maybe you felt pissed off so looked for the faces that matched the way you felt. I was having an amazing time, and seemed to only see people that felt the same as I.
But i understand your point of view as I said, its hard work all the mud and the rain and the sunshine was way more chilled, and time seemed to last longer as you didn't spend half an hour getting somewhere.
Please go again, its a billion times better in the sunshine!!!
I think the weather has ruined summer, not just glade, and i think thats something we in the UK are going to have to make our piece with. Because sadly mother nature will always get the upper hand.

maybe...maybe...

I was well prepared for the rain...I think it comes down to the fact that the organisation was so blatantly dreadful that it could't make up for the weather. It didn't help that the sound in some of the tents was fucking awful, like for instance mood deluxe sounded all out of time because the speakers weren't all in sync so it was shit. eiter that or he was just shit, but I've seen himbefore and he wasn't so I dunno...

The weather alone couldn't have killed the vibe, just I think it was a bit weak in the first place, and it got squashed.

I'm sure there'll be people who'll disagree with me on that one, and I'll bet it will be people who have been before and can't bare to admit it was a bit rubbish in some regards this year.

I think that nice weather makes you 'gloss over' things like bad orgaisation because you can be like "ah yeah we missed xxxx because the timings were wrong but we went and chilled so it was all good" but you can't really be so philosophical when the only other thing to do is tramp folornly from one end of the site to the other.

There were some amaaazing bits, don't get me wrong, I just don't think it lived up to the hype. Maybe I was expecting too much in the first place? I went to Sunrise and had an awsome time and the people I went with there saying to me "you wait till Glade!" so I had massive hopes for it, I guess. It wasn't bad, per se, just not a amazing as I'd thought to would be.

I get the feelin that the organisation was fucked, but i feel that had alot to with not being able to get people into the site. I guess i'm biased, i loved every second of it and was grinning from ear to ear. but then i was just glad not to be at wor and to be with my mates. but then expereince is a personal thing, thankfully we cannot all experience everything the same way. i went to glasto 3years ago and hated HATED every single second of it. i dont knwo why i hated it so much. but now i realise it was what it was, i wont go again, but there's 120,000 toher people that will happily take my place so i guess its one of those'put it down to experience' things.
i hope you go again and i hope next year we all get to take our tops off and lollop around basking in the glory off all things glade

I know what you mean..it was my first glade too and in some respects it was a bit of an anticlimax but i still had a good time...and actually quite enjoyed stomping around in the mud :D ..it wasnt so much the mud that pissed me off...i mean dont get me wrong the weather being shit had a big effect on the atmosphere..its amazing how much weather can effect peoples moods...but mainly it was the lack of preparation...I mean its been shit ALL 'summer' and there was loads of weather warnings..its not like the downpour was unexpected. From a cheap/small fest that cost me £60ish id say fair enough...but for £120 fest i expect a bit more to be honest. I mean...thats not far off glasto prices ffs...and like ive said before on here there were some seriously annoying, immature twats there..which i also didnt expect..i think i went expecting everyone to be wonderful glade people lol...but in reality thats not what i found. Im referring to people being completely unsubtle and in some cases blatently showing off drug use...im guessing the less experienced drug users ..and certain people who came on the sat and pitched their tent pretty much on top of hours..letting in all the damp etc  ..anyway ill stop complaining.

On a happier note I did enjoy myself despite these things and met some very nice people :) especially thankful to the man in the liquid tent on sat nite who made me smile & found me chewing gum when i was having a v.nasty comeup.. and the girl who helped me find my friends/tent when i was lost & confused. All in all i did get to see 90% of the people perform i was really botherd about & had it a lot easier than others from the weather.

the one big plus point I have to give the glade organisers was having a number I could ring, and a nice lady at the end of it, when I was having full on traumas about getting in bcause all the trains were fucked on friday and she was v nice and calm and was like, "no we'reletting in till 12 now...it'll be fine" she saved my sanity.

And also big love to my taxi driver who only charged me £30 for the trip from basingstoke depite the fact we were in the car for 90 mins... :D

I did moan on occasion whilst actually at the festival but only about the weather. I thought the music was second to none and ive been absolutly gutted all week this week that Glade is over for another year.

I thought the atmospere was great, music was great, people were great, food was....etc etc etc.

I didnt really notice anything about the sound. If it was slightly quieter (?); then i dont mind as long as it means there's going to be a Glade 2008 at Wasing...

It seems quite odd that it's the Glade veterans who had a dry year to compare it to that had the better time out of them and the newbies!

Personally, I thought the atmosphere was incredible - every single person I turned to for a chat was more than happy to oblige, everyone I smiled at smiled back, and I managed to ponce things off people without so much as a mucky look. The cheer when the sun first shone was magical, as it was on Sunday afternoon when it finally came out again.

Possibly we inflated Glade's brilliance before the festival to such a degree that it had no chance once the weather turned for those that were coming at it fresh. The weather always changes things, but I find it odd that people go to a festival like Glade on the recommendations of others and then complain that the lineup wasn't exactly as advertised. Unless you only went to see one act (like Snares) then there must have been a thousand other things that would have raised it again for you?

Im 100% sure its because of the weather that you are feeling this way tangentgirl :) Glade really is amazing, if it had been dry this would have been the best Glade so far. With regards to mood deluxe, i was there near the front and it sounded fine. The thing with these ambisonic funktion 1 things is they have certain sweet spots and certain dead spots, if it sounds crap then move a few feet forwards or backwards or left or right and the sound magically sounds better again! :) By the way did you see Rex before Mood Deluxe? Absolutely outstanding!!

I just want to say that this was my first time at glade and I had the best weekend of my life........Even after our tents being 3 feet deep in water on the friday morning and losing all my dry clothes. I think the organisers done really well to keep the festival going after all the rain and the site being turned into a complete mud pit. Everyone who is complaining should stop and think about the poor people who lived near by who had their homes wrecked because of the water....
I will deffinatley be coming back to glade and to be honest I kinda miss stomping about in the mud!!! It was one of the most friendliest festivals I have ever been to and the community spirit of all the people there was amazing..
Even the sound in the overkill tent didn't annoy me that much I was just happy that they got it up and running on the friday night.

well, well done to you for staying on, which is more than what i did! ok it wasn't just the weather that decided for me, but yeah, i feel a huge sense of freedom & carefree attitude when it's sunny. i'm a sunshine person!! i even have that SAD (seasonal adjustment dissorder) - yes i am officially SAD! can't for the life of me understand those who've been before saying this year was better than previous years when it was hot, sunny, you could lie on the grass, come as you go without wading, all the decor AND the wasing site just glowed under the big blue sky.

but, fairplay, some killer stages put up this year

Well, fair enough, it was a bit of an endurance test.

But at the same time I met some fabulous people I wouldn't otherwise have met, plus of course caught up with some others I hadn't seen in a year or so.

Oh, and the music was pretty good too. :)

sorry you were disapointed, you should definately come next year coz we must be due another sunny one after this and then you'll see glade in all it's glory (plus after this year the crew are really determined to aim for perfection next time)

a lot of the line up / set time changes were well beyond our control, and due to the roads being screwed so it was taking stupid amounts of time to get artists from the airport to the site, plus we were having to ferry the artists and kit to the tents from the gates in 4*4's as nothing other than 4*4's could go off the track backstage so everything was taking longer than it should have and we were having to sometimes shuffle sets round last minute as we realised the artist wasn't going to make it on time so couldn't even produce posters announcing set time changes (as we didn't know the set time would need to change til minutes before we had to change it in most cases).

it was definately a festival where the best plan was to wander round checking out what was going on and discovering new and wonderful dj's you'd not heard before rather than planning your entire festival around particular artists, but that really was down to the weather. A good time was definately available to be had as you can see from the posts on here saying what an amazing time some people had, you just had to go with the flow a bit.

I didn't see a single set all weekend, just to put things into perspective  :(

Yeh I'm probably partly to blame for Tangent looking forward to Glade TOO much as I was at Sunrise and was one of the ones saying wait til Glade!!!!

In fairness noone can control the weather, but the weather doenst ake or break the festival for me its the people and music that do it fo me. Anyone who was there on thursday through to friday will appreciate just how bad the weather was, and just how lucky we had Glade at all!

I think thats why most people had a blast, becase they just rolled their sleeves up and said "fuck it! I'm gonna enjoy myself here". Certainly thats how I felt!

Having said that I still dont know if Meat Katie or Hybrid played, which were 2 people I was looking forward to immensley, so I can uunderstand the frustrations of not seeing people you had been looking forward to for months! Only thing I can say is.....Ive been to all 4 Glades, and to compare this one to any of the others is just impossible, it was a totally different Glade, in almost every way! In a lot of ways though it was my most enjoyable though, the mud added to it for me, and i feel strangely proud that I made it through it :)

You should defo go back next year Tangent, as for me, think Ive done Glade to death now, might go somewhere else for a change!!!!

Can you see a link on their website, Smiffy? I know you're looking through the actual paper but wondered if you'd seen it.

That site's search engine is only coming up with old pages. :(

The thing I thought that the weather spoiled was,
The beautiful decor,
And the fact that its harder to bump into people coz there all hid in dark cafes instead of lazing around on the grass.

But, the bad weather made things better too, people were hardcore and we were all going through similar things, like flooded tents, horrible toilets, dancing in the mud, slipping, and people still had smiles on their faces. That was nice to see.
I always have a banger at glade, and this year was no exception.

But, I think the lay out this year was a little retarded. A bit too prolonged.

Also I think 20 quid to get cars towed out the car park, is a fucking scam though, what the hell glade, its your responsibility to help people get out.
