Only one DnB act?

Postby Sperge on 19 Apr 2006, 17:59

Dunno about you, but I was surprised to read in the latest answers that there will only be one drum & bass act and that the organisers feel the genre doesn't fit in with the general Glade vibe.

The DnB act is a major one, I believe, but personally I thought there'd be more.

I'll admit that the DnB tents at Global Gathering did attract our sportswear-clad brethren like flies to a turd, but at the same time the DnB acts were completely hassle-free at things like Glasto's dance village. What do you think?

it'll probably be pendulum, as their 'planet pendulum' dj 'show' is a mix of breaks & dnb; perfect for the glade i suppose.

not too fussed; i'm not really there for the dnb (plus its on pretty much every other night in brizzle).

shame they couldn't reach out the likes of marky, ltj bukem, calibre, photek, or the renegade lot (loxy/ tech itch etc), as they sure as hell don't represent the boring/bland side of dnb.

a jungle show would've been cool too; randall or jumping jack frost doing an old skool sesh well late in the night wud be sweet.

guess i know now what to take on my boom box.

so yeah, i'm guessing it'll be a name similar to aphrodite, so i'm gonna make a guess (and hope) at Hype or Zinc. But it'll probably be pendulum.

Or someone like High Contrast or Cyantific!!!

I am gutted there will not be more DnB at glade, was looking forward to enjoying a bit of DnB without all the attitude you seem to get in all my local clubs!!

Yous should come over to Belfast for a weekend if you want Dn'B nights with no attitude crowds.. In fact the crowds are actually very friendly..
And it's also the home of Calibre & Spree 8)

website for Calibre's club night is http://www.release-dnb.com
Spree http://www.spree.us/mainpage.html
Irish Drum and Bass http://www.irishdrumandbass.com[/url]

I dont think most Chavie types will even be aware of Glade, with the tickets almost sold out even if they are attracted by inclusion of a few D&B names they wont be able to get in. So come on, get Tru Playaz in, would be so nice to see Hype somewhere over than a chav infected Fabric.

You know it's going to be Pendulum... look at STIR's line-up, all those guys will clearly be at Glade...

I've seen Pendulum several times and they weren't actually that great. Obviously Voodoo People gets the crowd going, amongst a few other tunes but generally they weren't that impressive. I'd much rather watch Roni Size or Congo Natty. Personal preference I suppose.

pendulum :(

im bored of them already
and whats up with them always droppin their own tunes, id rather play the album
plus when i see them theres always girls trying to chat them up, almost as bad as tryin to listen to hardcore under the screams of pre pubescent girls trying to pull the mc stomr and whizzkid *shakes head*

Dj hype ive never made time for, he always has some silly MC going "DJ HPYE, DRUM N BASS!! HYPE!! CRAPP BRAAP!!HYPE SWITCH etc"

Id love to see photek, subfocus, and some proper old junglist brothers. nice bit of 93-94 jungle with some darker jump up thrown in :D

One decent dnb name will really add to it IMO, though you're right that any more than that risks bringing some of dnb's shitty attitude to the festival and spoiling it.

I was really there for the littlebig tent and the techno last year but Aphrodite was my set of the festival... mainly because it was so unlike the usual crappy bang bang bang rewind rudeboy stuff and cos it was so different to everything else that was on.

Ask me it sounds like they've got totally the right approach - a bit of variety in moderation is always a good thing :wackyhat:

Aphrodite was great last year, shame he had MC sugar waffling over the top though!

Ha ha, yeah - too true... I remember one particularly shit bit (before Aphrodite actually arrived) when he was going:

"I say nice! You say time! Nice! Time! Nice! Time!" :(

I honestly don't get what the hell MCs add to the whole thing - surely if Rush & Optical thought having some teenage rude kid in a tracksuit shouting about his Audi TT, bigging up his "kru" and spouting incoherent jibberjabber like some kind of brain-injured Scatman John over their carefully constructed breakdowns would make their tune sound better... it would be ON THE FUCKING RECORD.

Ah well, whatever pings your button I suppose.

yeah, MC's no need for em anymore really, especially for the rollers. The only two i would ever worth considering is Dynamite or Navigator, as they dont chat shit and they know when to shut up if need be.

The idea of mc'ing is a good one, but it needs to be done well, really, really well.

I think it can help to add a bit of difference to some drum and bass that can sound a bit repetitive for a period of time, but there's not much talent being shown in it.

The human voice can be a fantastic instrument, it's just very rarely used well in mc'ing unfortunatly.
