That would be absolutly incredible but i sadly believe that it could lead to an increase in the vermin that like to hop fences. Good call though. Another i'd love to see play a minimal techno section would be Trentmoller- but again the problem of commercial interest arises.

I guess The Orb are still officially going. They released a studio album last year.

Alex Paterson seems to mainly play DJ sets and at Beautiful Days he collaborated with Mad Professor to do a live set called Mad Orb.

Fingers crossed then.

I saw him at Fabric and it was a bit like seeing the boys live - all the classics got played, including Halcyon with Bon Jovie, Darkness & Belinda samples.

Serious dance-heads don't rate him as a DJ, but I couldn't give a fuck to be honest - I had a great time.

Yeah, saw him on NYE in Manchester just over a year ago at that infamous old skool techno v Metropolis drum n bass night. Brilliant set and, like you said, almost as good as an Orbital live set. Don't think he played the new version of Halcyon with the Darkness sample though.

The speculation I heard went one step further and claimed the boys would both be there for a live set, which although I'm sure we'd cream our pants if that happened, it just doesn't seem very likely somehow.

Maybe if I sell my soul to Satan, he might agree to bring P + P back?

Orbital doing a live set? More chance of the Beatles reforming IMO. Would be sooper tho, I agree.

Crosswire the tune that Phil Hartnel has done with Aquasky is awesome.

I wonder what will happen long term on that. My impression (and this is just a hunch on my part, nothing more) is that Phil would have been happy to carry on but Paul wanted to move into other things like film scores. Phil still plays a lot of Orbital stuff in the DJ sets and I read somewhere that Phil is now sole (not joint) owner of the Orbital brand.

Now assuming that it's true that Paul wanted the split, and that he changes his mind and agrees to play at least some occasional dates, all well and good.

But if that is just never going to happen, I wonder if Phil would ever consider reforming Orbital for stage shows with someone else playing Paul's role. It wouldn't be the same, as I doubt the chemistry would be there for new material - but those choons simply have to be heard live again, end of.

I hope, if Orbital do play live again, it will be Phil AND Paul. It just wouldn't be the same any other way!

At least the split was amicable, so the chances of them playing live again are better than if they had fallen out.

Who knows, maybe in a few years when the coffers have dried up......

When HUM was small, free and tucked away in north london somewhere, (i cant remeber where it was so long ago now!) phil hartnoll played a breaks set and came and danced in the crowd with everyone, he was going around shaking peoples hands and chatting with 'em! My mate who is a top orbital fan got the chance to meet and then dance alongside one of his heros....he was well chuffed!!! :)
