Police chief's message to Glade people

Postby Sperge on 16 Jul 2007, 22:53

Following on from our thread about Glade security, I thought you might like to know the special welcome Thames Valley Police have in store for you:

http://www.newburytoday.co.uk/News/Arti ... cleID=4668

Supt Chris Shead "warned drug sellers at the Glade festival not to expect an easy ride this year as he intends to step up the police presence at the event".

Check out the video for more information. It's a general interview about policing in the area, the drug stuff is right at the end (about 3mins into the video).

He says: "There will be a substantial police presence at the Glade festival and we'll be taking a particular interest in the drugs issue."

So to the one or two people who've been asking about this, you've got your answer now...

He does in the video.

As the police chief always used to say in Hill Street Blues, "Be careful out there..." ;)

aaaaww fucking hell....why cant they just leave people to enjoy themselves? Only harming ourselves....we are adults and have a choice whether to take things or not....if we decide to do things....anything that happens is our own fault!

All for craking down on things if they need cracking down on....anyone who has gone to Glade knows that its always been fine!

Hope that they dont intend on interfering too much!!!

Blugh.... more and more like Big Brother each day.

Does anybody know how many drugs related incidents there were last year....like medical/violence etc. Not arrests.

well just means you have to be extra careful this year doesnt it!....just be discreat......and dont sell anything to anyone!!!

BTW anyone who does do drugs or intends on selling drugs to anyone...should know the risks.....and penalties associated with it!

You take your own chances if you do intend on doing anything like this!

I for one will be sticking to alcohol and some nitrous!

Well, the licensing hearing left us in no doubt about TVP's feelings about the festival. What this will actually translate to in practise, who knows?

Some of it is probably just playing to the gallery, but he sounds pretty serious to me.

But basically, I'd say don't expect things to be how they were in previous years.

can any event be like they were in previous years? bit of a romantic notion, that...

but :wackyhat: hats off to glade for keeping (blagging it?) low key for so long. £110 for a non corporate non sponsored event, it's not that much price increase - so yeah, take the warnings, but also don't panic. it's still glade

edit: not to detract from this message, but this statement would come out at the time of the appeal against restrictions, probably felt they needed to calm the locals!

We have to remember as well that the Police are there to keep us safe and make sure nothing bad happens. We should appreciate that...

Totally agree with you SFT. Whether you like it or not, drugs are controlled substances wherever you are in the country, whether it's in your front room, at a club, or at a festival. If you want to take the risk it's your choice and you gotta accept the consequences if you're caught, simple as that.
By the time you've read this message it's too late to stop reading it.

...i agree. Prepared to do the crime...gotta be prepared to do the time..

I think its a bit of a waste of TVP resources if you ask me tho as the mojority of the time they will probably just be sat there in a "monitoring" Role..
You just can't beat factually-correct rave talk...
