We've been running a very popular thread here since 6 April where we take board members' questions about the Glade and submit them direct to the Glade organisers for their answers. You might have seen some of these answers reproduced elsewhere on the web, but they first appeared in our thread, direct from the organisers themselves, you lucky lucky people.
You'll need to log on to access the full thread. But here's a round-up of some of the questions and answers so far.
IMPORTANT: Can anyone who plans to copy and paste these questions and answers on other sites please note that the answers were provided on the express condition that they would be published as we received them - i.e. unedited and
not paraphrased in any way. Letting people know where you found them would be appreciated too.
1. Will the Breaksday tent be better than ever this year?
The breaks line up is certainly as good as its ever been - people who like fat DJs will be
happy
. We have already sold over 2000 tickets to breaks fans........its gonna be monsta....
2. Are the outdoor stages going to close at midnight and if so are the
tents going to be any bigger than last year?
Yes and yes - the Liquid Connective tent will handle the late night Psy Trance and is a
2000 capacity tent with a killer Linearay Rig. Its going to be Hooj in there.... this year
we have more ofthe twisted nightime tip than in previous years, including EVP and
Scorb, who we feel are currently the best of British in this style.
All the other tents have increased in size.
3. Where is it?
In a beautiful green place with trees, centrally located in England.
There will be a shuttle bus from the local train station.
To encourage car sharing we will again have the green tax of 5 pounds per car - free if
you have 3 or more people in the car. Part of this money gets donated to our
environmental charity.
4. If we must have the great unwashed polluting our fair countryside,
will the upper classes be allowed to hunt them with dogs?
Interestingly, this particular bit of our fair countryside belongs to what the person
asking this question would probably call the upper classes - the landowner is a really
nice bloke and loves sharing his bit of land with 12,500 assorted nutters........ I think
thats the difference - its about sharing - the English countryside belongs to everyone
that lives in England..... its important for people who live in the concrete jungles to
surround themselves with nature from time to time - its good for the vitality and creative
inspiration.
The key issue is that the sites we use are cleaned with a fine tooth comb - every single
cigarette butt, everything is gone.
the other point thats worth making is events like the Glade are a vital revenue source to
landowners who traditionally made their money from farming, now mostly defunct in
England. Without festivals, landowners would have to sell off parts of their estates for
building projects.......the person who asked this question would do well to remember
that next time he is walking his dog (on someone else's land).
That aside, there are no dogs allowed on site, so I think we are safe.
5. Are you going to ban lanky hippies who can't efing dance? Last year
there was a group of them throwing themselves around at the corner o f
the liquid stage...... One nearly broke foot! Mad Bloody Hippys
Nope - lanky hippies are welcome whether they can dance or not.......
6. Will there be more property lock-ups this year?
Yes - thankyou for bringing this up. There was actaully a property lock up last year but
nobody used it - This year we will publicise it well.
It is free service, open 24hrs and world like a club cloakroom. It totally secure and has
24hr security. People will be able to drop a small bag (think hand luggage) and come
back anf forth as many times as they like.
We really hope people will use this facility - thieving bastards cannot steal things out of
tents if the stuff is not there to steal - if we can all take responsibilty for our own stuff,
the community will thrive.
On the subject of security, this year there is going to be a 4m high steel shield fence
around the arena. We have also doubled the security presence, and have a new, much
higher end security company - we take the security of our guests extremely seriously -
people need to be relaxed to keep the vibe.
7. Why no forum this year? You got something against virtual people or
what?
No - we are always checking in the on the unnofical forums and often post
anonomously and getting involved in the discussions...... the reason we dont have a
Glade Forum this year is because it is a tremendous amount of work to moderate it and
we cannot aford to pay someone to do it...... also, since we closed the glade forum,
some excellent unofficial forums have sprang up and are doing the job just as
well...........so no official Glade Forum this year........we kind of miss it tho.
The website is due an update and we will be increasing the info on the FAQs page -
including these ones !
8. Will the Glade be getting any radio or TV broadcast coverage?
There will a couple of live internet Radio broadcasts on underground dance sta tions
(TBA) but definitely no TV coverage - thats not what we are about.
9. What's the deal with alcohol this year? Will there be a limit on how
much we can bring?
Same as last year - it can only be brought in when the licensed bars are not open -
from 12p Thurs to 6pm Thurs.
Only personal amounts can be admittedand no glass bottles
Personal amount is
12 cans of beer or cider.
1X bottle spirits (decanted into plastic)
3 bottles of wine
or reasonable variations around this - ie 24 beers ia alright if you got nothin else..... its
basically a licensing restriction that we are seen to be ensuring people are not going to
sell alcoholon site or be pissed out of their hedz and setting fi re to portaloos.
10. Are camp fires, fire poi, firesticks, garden candles, flares and
other such things banned this year?
Yes I am afraid they are all not allowed in the license conditions - but assuming it is not
roasting hot like it was last year, there will be two or three big communal fires to sit
round. (we didnt bother last year cos it was so hot).
There will be some killer fire shows, but only by booked acts (line up is full) in a
designated area.
11. Will nakedness be tolerated, or only if painted purple?
Any colour is fine.
12. Are the camper vans separated from the camping area and what are the
washing facilities?
Yes they are separate - there will be hot showers dedicated to the camper van field this
year. (more hot showers for everyone in the arena too)
13. I have recently had a bust up with mate who I got ticket for, as you
know they have names and addresses on. They have not given me the dosh
for the ticket. Is there any way of transferring this ticket on to
another friend who is less shit?
Yes - contact the issuing agent and explain the situation - after a few security checks
they can change the name. This can only be done once per order.
14. Is there the opportunity to have a travellers field outside the festival like Glasto used to, or would licence restrictions stop the opportunity for some little parties in the twilight hours? Could festivalgoers bring a little music equipment like a stereo or some speakers and an amp with decks?
No, definitely not - it will give people who want to see the festival stopped the perfect ammunition.
15. Will there be any drum n bass? Or is there a lack of dnb to
discourage 'undesirables'?
There will be one DnB act. We dont go for DnB because its got its own vibe and we dont think that
vibe is gonna mix particularly well with what else is at the glade.
16. What's the alcohol licence rules? Is alcohol allowed to be sold all hours by traders or will it restricted again like last year?
Same as last year.
17. Will there be bars open on the Thursday evening?
Yes from 6pm.
18. When will us ticketholders know the exact location? Two days, a week,
two weeks, a month before the event?
3 weeks
19. Will food traders still be restricted to those selling quality food, i.e. no burger vans?
Thats right.
