The Roots Tent

That's what just reminded me that I haven't heard anything about the Roots Tent yet. With all the other awesome acts being announced, I totally forgot about it. I reckon this place might just be the hidden gem of the festival... there's so much mystery surrounding this one. What are the roots of dance music anyway? Can we expect ambient? Krautrock? Dub? Sound collages? Some live musique concrete??? Surely not!

Speculation please!

(PS: We should try and get Neu! to reform and play it, along with Cluster and then they could both do Harmonia, and then get Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze and Ash Ra back together. Then bring back Michael Karoli via some sort of witchcraft and get an undead Can reuinion going! Sounds plausible to me!)

If it was Kraftwerk during the day than Lee Scratch Perry at night it would be the best tent ever!

A live Whitehouse or Nitzer Ebb show would be good.

I suspect it will be a bit PussyParlure but without the dancing ladies.

Eclectic I think will be the word.

Nick says the Roots Tent line-up "is still ongoing".

As far as content goes, it does have a fairly broad remit but there won't be much reggae, ska, salsa etc as some thought, that is more Pussy Parlure's domain.

the same guys running this tent ran a tent at sunrise wher the bar was, and others who were there will vouch for me, it was a seriously good tent, expect some amazing things to happen in there ..... :wackyhat:

Anyone heard more about who's going to be in the Roots tent beyond the self-confimed artists? Neither Glade nor Fishseeksbicycle have been saying much about it...

On June 12th G Tickets sent this update:

The Roots Tent...

Well well well.. the Roots tent is one of the new additions to the Glade this year. It's a nod to the beginnings of dance music and you'll find an awesome retro pool of loud in your face echos from the past! Artists on a dub, reggae and ska tip include Jah Free, Gabbidon (Basil Gabbidon was one of the founder members of Steel Pulse), Scratchy (The Clash's tour DJ), The Soul and Power Sound System, Pama International and Gringo Ska.Then there's also Kenji Williams, Pathaan, Doctor D, Molara and the very brilliant All Funked Up DJs. Sunday in the tent is going to be bit of spectacular mayhem with a load of artists and DJs, including Will White, going back in the day with the Somerset Free Party Crew! Awesome......

Algorithm...

And who knows what this is all about... Probably one of those things that you'll have to come and find out about yourself... They claim that ALGORITHM concerns possible spaces and spatial objects - curves, surfaces, knots, manifolds, phase spaces, symmetrical groups, etc. Well artists 'performing' include stephan mathieu, richard chartier, si-cut.db, evol, sawako, snd, mark fell, ernest edmonds, biosphere, pharoid with time chamber, 5-MeO-DMT, ed martin, paul emery and tom knapp.

Hedge Monkey playing on the Roots tent at 2:45 on the sunday afternoon. They opened the main arena on the sunday in 2005, and they were amazing. Lead female vocal, 5 or 6 musicians, playing nicely chilled zero7 esque sounds but with a bit more of an upbeat edge. IN fact - their mspaz page says they now play house, techno and electronica (and it also confirms they are at glade)

I know they are playing because following their 2005 gig, one of their members noticed my post on the bedrock forum saying how great they are, and e-mailed me! They recently got in touch again, and have now confirmed they are playing this year :)

Woooo

On Sunday afternoon there was some absolutely superb old skool being played in the Roots tent that really hit the spot. Clearly I wasn't the only one who felt this way because during the course of their set (don't know who it was, but they had a black MC) the tent became fuller than I saw it be during the entire weekend. Quality!
