Type Of Tunes On Offer...

Postby Nyphur on 12 Mar 2006, 03:37

Hi all, well with news of tickets going on sale (i hear at a price of £98+booking fee?) i was curous as to what styles of music i'm going to find at Glade.
Basicaly i like most EDM, but a lot of the artists talked about here i've never heard of, such as Ceephax etc.
So what styles are on offer? I se Psy trance, breakbeat etc, any hard house/house/more commercial stuff (dont get me wrong, i dont love commercial house etc, but sometimes its nice to get a bit wavy to it, or a bit of hardcore for example)

cheers all

I hadn't heard of most of the acts at the first (or even second) Glade but trust me, it's all good. Ceephax is Squarepusher's little brother and is on the experimental side of things. Check this link to see what he's about.

Doubt you'll hear any commercial stuff at all.

And yeah, tix are apparently £98 plus booking fee.

Part of the fun is hearing new stuff and thinking "wow" or "huh" or "...next". I'd never even heard any psytrance before I went last year, and now, well I'm not really a fan but it was a great setting to hear it in.

It's part of what makes Glade a different experience to other festivals. 8)

I know some people seem to really hate psytrance (calling razorruck! calling razorruck! ) but the thing is that without psytance there would be no Glade, seeing as it's put on by the guys at Nano Records.

Personally I loved the atmosphere going past the Origin Stage, even if I'm more into the other genres.

Just wouldn't have been the same without that endless thumping audible throughout the campsite, the first music to play and the last thing you'd usually hear at night.

You're right with the fact that the core of the Glade festival is based around Psy-Trance, however my first experience of what i know as 'the Glade' came from seeing AFX at Glasters '03, and that first initial impression/ memory etc will forever be with me, hence the fact that I don't personally associate psy-trance with it, and probably never will! I'll always think of the Glade as experimental electronica/ mashup beats etc.

Easiest way to express how i feel about it; using a Glasters analogy, I took psytrance/origin and the breaks tent as being the pyramid/ other stage/ boring bits, & the rest of it amazing! Its all good though, however mad i sound

Mind you, the atmosphere walking past the origin stage last year was always immense and every1's well up for it which is great! 8)

Ah ok guys, thanks for the info.

Out of interest, does the festival attarct any "big name" DJ's?
What it is, i'm trying to convince some mates to come along with the few of us that are already going, but they're unlikely to come unless they've heard of some of the line-up.

Cheers

Depends what you mean by "big name". Sasha was probably the most commercially known DJ last year - but his set was booooooooooring.

Richie Hawtin wasn't up to his usual standard either.

If they want lots of big name DJs, they'd be better off at Global Gathering or Homelands. I think Carl Cox may be playing this year though - and he always delivers.

as far as big names go; Aphrodite was there last year, and his set was wicked!

I thought aphrodite was diabolical last year, personally. Lacked energy, didnt seem that into it, and the mc came across as a bit of a nob. I'm not usually all that into d&b mcs, but he was particularly bad. I almost wet myself when he said 'big up the south berkshire massive'. Without a hint of irony.

Maybe I was just in a bad mood. It was quite early...

The south berkshire massive? What do they go gang banging in daddies range rover on the way to the pony club. Does one have too be in the WI to qualify as a south berks massive ho?

I think Prince William was in Da South Berks Massive when he was at Eton. :wackyhat:
