That's what annoys me. Not only did he act like a prick and only give half a show, he also made me miss Black Dog which I then had to listen to people say was amazing for the next three hours!

Funnily enough, I was really enjoying the vapour stage before I went back to Overkill for about 5 minutes of Snares (got fed up with the constant stream of rude buggers shoving past, never mind the volume or the ranting!), but when I went back it wasn't as good. When did Black Dog play?

I have the organisers' response to Snares' walk-out and the Overkill sound issue here.

Snares said:
"again, I didn't want to stop playing. yeah I got pissed at the sound boy cuz he wouldn't turn it up. people obviously wanted it turned up. so after I told him off he ran only highs into my monitors, meaning all I could hear from that point on was hats and other high pitched sounds. if it's too difficult to understand what it's like to attempt to mix like that then I don't know what to tell you. think what you want of me. I didn't storm off, I waved goodbye and left.

people can say all they want about how other djs didn't complain about the conditions and that is fine. but it's not the case when someone is deliberately fucking with your sound. I hung around in the mud too, had a choice not to show up even, but I did. so why then would I go to some place to get covered in mud only not to play for a bunch of people also covered in mud that wanted to HEAR me play? I wanted to hear me play too.

I'd also like to add that I wasn't dissing on british people but the uk itself. was clowning around, people shouldn't take it the wrong way."

I find this a more credable explination than the organisers one, no disrespect to them but I don't like this increasing anti snares atitude thats going around. I have to say it didnt help when everyone was yelling about the volume. Fact is if its gonna be that volume then theres fuck all you can do about it, yelling out only made it even harder for the rest of us to hear and contributed in his earl departure. "people obviously wanted it turned up"

The is an "anti-snares" attitude around because what he did was wrong and childish. He is meant to be a performer and as such should have the showmanship to carry on with what he has, even if there are problems. The show must go on. When Radiohead played Glastonbury many years ago (1998 maybe?), the stage was flooded and they had to play without monitors at all yet, despite this, they carried on and put on a good show. This is because they are a professional band and wanted to give the audience what they came for. A lot of my friends only made one visit into Overkill and that was to see Snares. He drew the biggest crowd of the weekend yet he let them all down. When Aaron Spectre played on the friday, parts of his set could hardly be heard over everyone's shouts of "turn it up" but he kept going and produced a great set. As you said:

There was fuck all he could do about the sound levels so he should have been a man and done the best he could with what he had instead of throwing his mixer out of his proverbial pram.

i was by the soundguy at the back while this was going on and once snares started moaning about the sound on the mic the sound guy laughed at him and continually turned it down through his set on purpose laughing as he was doing it to piss him off.

i dont blame snares for getting mad

Eh.

Snares was booked to play in The Shelter in Dublin sometime in October 2004 (maybe?). He was playing a gig in Rennes, France the night before which he didn't get onstage until 6:30am. Consequently, he didn't get much sleep, slept it in, missed his flight by 30 minutes and couldn't get another one in time. He was then booked to play the Temple Bar Music Centre and April 2005, which he played, and The Hub in June 2006 which he also played. He hasn't been booked to play in Dublin since.

It's worth pointing out that Snares reimbursed the promoter for the money the promoter lost when the gig in The Shelter didn't go ahead. There aren't many people around that would do that.

Snares deserves alot more credit than what he's getting here.

He could have bitten his lip and carred on, but part of me is happy he spoke out and made a stand for his audiance. I've been waiting 3 years to see him so of course I was dissapointed, but I've no doubt he had good intentions.
By doing what he did he highlighted the crowds issue with sound. Organisers say that other djs didn't complain, well, perhaps they should of, because in fairness overkill has fucking quiet that night. We were camped by the liquid and the roots tent and when we returned from snares the sound was booming out of those tents, I'm talking real gut renching bassy thumps like it was all day and night.

I get the fealing that overkill generally wasn't as big a priority in glade as it should be. You could arguee that there isn't as large a fan base at glade but I think the imences overcrowding in there suggests otherwise. I'm not angry at the organisers, they made a good festival and I had a good time, mistakes are inevitably made.

The organisers were well aware of the crowd's issue with the sound in Overkill, as were the other DJs. Off the top of my head, I remember both Aaron Spectre and Beardyman asking for the volume to be turned up and there were multiple acts who did the same. The difference between these acts and Snares was that they understood the position the organisers were in over db levels and that they should do what they are there for and perform the best they can with limited resources. Everyone else enjoyed themselves despite poor sound, why couldn't Snares?

Also, compared to Aaron Spectre's set on the Friday at Bangface, Venetian Snares set was loud by comparison. Overkill was far quieter on the Friday than on the Saturday so if anyone should have walked off, it should have been the people on the Friday.

It was load enough for me, the people to one side of me were loving it, as they should, and the people to the other side were moaning.

The mans music has put a smile on my face more than anything else I can think of, I trust most people on this forum are big music enthusiasts, you know how big an imact certan music can make on you. You can't turn against it because the producer allegedly had a strop. If your leting that cload his talent and reputation then surly you wernt a big fan in the first place. So don't go see him and leave some dancing room for his real fans.
