I doubt criticism is going to hurt poor little glades feelings to the extent that it will never want to come out to play again. The only way you get any business to improve is buy complaining, going elsewhere, or some competition moving in and raising the bar. Giving the organizers a pat on the back for not taking ANY precautions for rain isn't going to do anyone any favours. And yes, there was a shit load of rain, but there was zero preparation, planning, even a token gesture that they gave a shit. G tickets run a number of other festivals. They are a professional festival company. They are not a bunch of well meaning hippies, so stop making excuses for them. Why is asking a professional company to be more professional a bad thing? I think its time for some people to detach g tickets cock from their lips, otherwise you may find it rammed up your backside in years to come.

But anyway, I think i was entitled to a rant after arriving home yesterday, I've showered 'n slept in a dry bed so rant over. Just didn't realise how many glade raven fundamentalists were out there.

point...............

but after reading alot of the reviews in the "i had a good time sorry" thread it does sound as if most had a great time despite the conditions so job done, they should refund people who got told it was cancelled and put in place some back-up in event of bad weather next year.

Time to focus on the good points as no-one died and a good
time was had by most by the sound of it.

yeah totally. i had a good time at the fest. it was good crack going through the river of pooh water. the rain came from the sky and the mud from the ground, nothing the organisers could do about it, but i was just pissed with they didn't try and do anything about it, AND the crap volume in overkill yet again. I was just surprised how defensive everyone is about g tickets. they aren't you mates. You don't hear people running to the defense of vodaphone when the give you a crap deal. consumer power people.

only complaint i have is the cheap £30 joe bananas tent i picked up wasn't bloody waterproof! :D i woke up in about 2 inches of water and everything i brought with me got soaked.

I do agree that there didn't seem much in the way of a bad weather contingency plan, and the profiteering on the last day was bang out of order, but generally I thought it went as smoothly as could be expected in the circumstances.

The toilets near the entrance were a fucking disgrace, though. Surely a tractor/tanker combination could have dealt with them?

G Tickets are a ticket agency that sell tickets, hence the name, they don't organise festivals.

I had an amazing time at Glade and for the most part thought the organisation was good. Glade turns over £1.5 million pounds or something though so those people suggesting that it's done "for love not profit" are kidding themselves. We paid £120 for tickets and you expect a certain standard for that amount of money - this wasn't a free party or a rave in the woods. I think that the organisers need to learn some lessons from how they dealt with it, especially on the following points:

- Car park needs sorting, whether it's temporary roads or whatever but they need to do something. It's not acceptable for people to have to pay £5 "green tax" and then pay another £5-40 to get towed out of the car park at the end. I'm pretty sure that the use of tractors on the car park made the situation worse for most people as they completed churned up the grass/mud. Also it would've helped if they'd told people they'd have to pay to get out so people could at least get to the cash point before leaving.

- Why were only a couple of bails of hay put down for people to sit on? It's not expensive and it's easy to get

- There were nowhere near enough water points, and the ones there were had no drainage so they were just making the flooding worse.

Overall thought it was brilliant though and will definitely be back :)

The Glades turnover says nothing at all about whether they do it for love or profit as it says nothing about their profit - it's expensive to put on a festival in this country, if you wanted to do that purely for love, then the turnover is likely to be around that regardless

yeah fine, but people will make profit wherever they can, and at a festival turning over that much money then a fair few people are creaming off a fair bit of cash. there's quite a few other festivals in the UK where the entry price is nowhere near glade's.

anyway i'm not really bothered about that, i just hope that the organisers would do it a bit better next time if similar things occurred.

theres nothing wrong with glade making a profit, no profit, no glade. but it does cost a lot. I don't think the artists at glade comand the same fee as the likes as the beastie boys or other big names at fests for same price or cheaper. they charged extra for security this year and they still hadn't a clue what was going on most of the time. I saw one guy being held face down in the mud with a gorilla kneeling on his back while pulling his arm behind his back. The guy was being totally passive and wasn't trying to get out of it at all. Nice to have your face pressed in to sewage. If you are going to go a head with a festival in the middle of the heaviest rain for 60 years you think the orgainisers would be prepared, or have some clue of what to do about it apart from crossing fingers, shrugging shoulders and hoping for the best.

Don't get me wrong, Glade aren't bad, but they ain't smellin of roses either.

As far as profit is concerned, £1680000 came from ticket sales. Take away from that hiring tents, soundsystems, security, engingeers, paying artists, and the donation to oxfam of £40,000 etc and I think you might come away with very little profit.

I spoke to a woman from G-tickets on Friday and they told me that Glade was cancelled Friday (and not to bother going that day) and to try phoning again Saturday to see if it was on. Music was on the whole time tho....?

Wish i'd have put more effort into going Friday...shouldve walked it..
