London’s club scene could be set for a double blow as rumours of Fabric’s demise have emerged on clubbing forums.
The news comes hot on the heels of the closure of Matter, the O2-based club owned by Fabric.
Rumours have been fuelled by speculation that the Clerkenwell-based parent club, notable for its vibrating dancefloor, was used as collateral to finance Matter.
A contributor to the Ravetalk forum thread on Matter’s closure, using the name “isobel1”, has said: “As I said I worked for Matter….. (Obviously not any more) and they did use Fabric as collateral. The administrators have obviously come in and taken the venue to pay off Matter’s debt. Either that or they simply can’t afford to pay staff wages. Again a very sad day for all my friends at Fabric and for London in general.”
Ravetalk has contacted Fabric to establish whether there is any truth in these rumours but no spokesperson was available for comment at the time of writing. However, Fabric’s official website is indicating that billed events are carrying on as normal.
