Pirates steal a whole bloody oil tanker!

I'm a bit disappointed that they don't still wear three-cornered hats, use cutlasses and cannons and hoist the skull & crossbones. Speedboats, AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades just aren't the same.

This is the second pirate story in the news in the last week. I can only conclude that it's Hollywood's fault for using Johnny Depp to make piracy glamorous.

Yep, the other story was the Royal Navy foiling another bunch of Somali pirates, killing two of them.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7725771.stm

So the tally for the week is currently: Pirates 1 Navy 1

If the ministry saw sense and sent in HMS Donk to sort the piracy problem (after all, a poacher makes the best gamekeeper), those Somalis would SHIT themselves - laughing! :D
Since July 20 1969, only eleven men have followed in Neil Armstrongs footsteps on the moon. Eleven. in nearly forty years. Pathetic. I mean, it's not rocket science is it?

I think the Indian navy's sinking of a pirate mother ship is worth two points.

So I'll call it 3-3.

We need a league table and points system.

3 points for a successful ransom demand, or a sunken pirate ship
1 point for a successful hijack, or a damaged pirate ship

That fair?

I reckon that makes it about 3-3 as things stand, although I'm not sure how the situation with the Ukrainian tanks turned out, and the bases are loaded at the moment.

I think it needs to depend on the size of the ship involved. Each side should be given an allocation of a certain number of each size ship.
