Anyone got the Behringer BCD2000/BCD3000

Can anyone tell me if these are worth the cash (if you've got one?)

I'm starting to get into digital DJing now and these look pretty wicked for the ton or so that they cost. I've checked out the Hercules ones but they seem to be quite naff, and the others seem to be much more expensive so the Behringers seem to be a happy medium. Anyone recommend them?

depends wot ur using it for. i use an evolution uc33e for ableton live as i use 6 audio channels plus midi but if ur using traktor then ur better off with that kind of controller.

i recommend the evolution x session pro its only about 65 pounds and its a good buy, or numark have just brought out a new 2 channel traktor style controller aswell.

id avoid the behringer one though. they dont have a very good rep when it comes to things with moving parts

In truth, I'd say - for mixing at home or producing, they're really good and will speed up your workflow no end. As for playing out, I wouldn't recommend it. They'll be unreliable and annoying.

Hs anyone got any pointers for starting to dj on the old computer? Is it more beneficial to learn Ableton or Traktor? What controllers and soundcards etc.

Cheers for the info guys.. I'm gonna be using it bascially as a replacement for my CDJs (which I'll keep alongside it but use raringly) so that I don't have to keep burning off CDs to do mixes. I'm getting big into buying mp3s now, so it's be nice to be able to mix them without having to spend 2 hours or so collating them and burning them off as audio ;)

I'm not using any mixing software atm although I do have a trial copy of ableton sitting on my hard drive. I've read not to use the s/w that comes with the behringer 2000 anyway as it's quite shite apparently!

Will check out that evolution x session pro now :) cheers again

My housemate has the Behringer control surface with all the motorised faders (can't remember the model number, but they're all the same family... the decks, the rack of knobs and the faders). Seems solid enough, but he's had a bit of trouble setting it up for Mackie emulation.

I just got a Korg PadKontrol to use with Reason and Ableton. It's awesome-o... although for live sets really rather than DJing.

I checked out the evolution controller, but there's no wheels (ie: for spinbacks, scratching etc). So how does the mixing work with that then? I can't imagine using the mouse/button pads for mixing, it seems just about the most un-intuitive method I can think of!

I have the BCD2000, Dave, it's terrible. Nice concept, but the implementation is rubbish. Constant drop-outs due to putting four channels of 24-bit audio as well as all the MIDI controls down a USB 1.1 pipe instead of USB 2.0. Appalling software - and it's not directly assignable for use with proper software like Traktor etc. Instead you have to use three third-party programs, it's a major faff to set up like this and my laptop (a P4 2.6GHz with 1meg RAM) can't hack it.

Bah  I was really looking forward to moving towards this kind of thing, but think now I'll not bother.. unless anyone has any midi controllers (with platters) which they use successfully?

I think the BCD 3000 is alot better, for starters it ships with traktor LE so defo should work with that, and also uses USB 2.0.

you don't really need much hardware to dj, yes some midi stuff helps for activating tracks and effects with ableton (if you do that sort of thing), but i've used a keyboard and mouse for most of my djing and do pretty well with it (ask for an example if you like)

if all you want to do is replace your cd decks for the time being, get a nice external soundcard with two stereo outputs, run those to your mixer of choice and dj like usual, set ableton to send one set of tracks to one output and another set of tracks to the other output. you get to eq and monitor everything like before and you don't have to spend outrageous amounts on a usb midi controller that fucks up all the time.

i generally don't scratch, looping is a piece of piss, and scrubbing is a lot more precise for me.

if what I'm saying sounds like gibberish, i can try to explain myself again.

though its a bit late at the mo
