Same as, I got my Stantons about two years back now, and its the best investment I've ever made. I was in Saphires trying out a few decks in my £700 price range, and I just feal in love the moment my hand toached the spining record. I ran down the street to meet my mum in this cafe, and beged her to lend me £50. That £50 saved my life.
I'm coresing them as I speak.

Decks!!!!!!!!!

miss special k wrote:Good luck. Techincs have to be the best decks and they last forever. Bought mine second hand 6 years ago and they're still like new! Most clubs use them so its worth spending out the extra pennies on them! Happy mixing x

They're solid, but they're not as good as everyone makes out, unless you like carting them to parties etc. There are better decks to be had in the home DJ setup. If you can mix on anything else, you can easily mix on Technics. Just watch out for the rpm lock in the middle, it's a bitch.

I'm using Gemini PT 2000s but I've hardly used em since I got em nearly 3 years ago! :(

I've got a job lot of about 100 late-90s DnB that I haven't even got halfway through playing yet, and I can't mix for shit, so it's a steep learning curve.

I need to get some breaks I think.

Just did a shitty gig which also happened to be my first try on industry standard technics.

I really don't see what all the fuss is about, sure mabey 10, 15 years ago, but my Stanton 150s shit on them. I can mix anything with anything using them if only they were standard at most venues.

Disagree if you must, but I had to let it out.

Hehehe, some people don't half have a chip on their shoulder about buying the wrong decks. ;)

Seriously, though, it does look like you're blaming your shitty gig on the fact that the club (or party host or whatever) provided the decks that are installed in 99% of the world's clubs instead of the ones you bought. Two things spring to mind here - a) it's a poor craftsman who blames his tools and b) whose fault is it that you learned on a different set of decks when you know perfectly well which ones are in almost every club?

This is all rather academic anyway, as I'm now certain that all vinyl decks are set to be museum pieces in the not too distant future, at least as far as professional DJ-ing is concerned. It's been really noticeable this year how many more DJs have switched over to CD decks and laptops. This will not be a popular thing to say in this thread but you all know deep down that it's true...

Ok, I'll avoid going into the analogue digital battle again, but my main point is a pair of turntables are useless to me unless the pitch is as variable as possible, mabey I spend to much time cranking up the bpm and having infinite tempo versatility. Or mabey I'm just babling.
I'm sure most cd decks have all those things anyway, but I'm forever vinyl for better or worse, all good relationships are dodgy ones.
And if digital djing did take over for good, vinyl would be kept alive only by reclusive weirdos. Like me. Wahay!

To be fair, something like the Stanton or Vestax decks are probably better suited for the mashcore stuff anyway. Some people do bodge up their Technics decks to give them a much bigger pitch range but it's a much better idea to buy decks that are designed for those speeds in the first place.

So if you definitely want to carry on using vinyl and don't want to restrict the range of things you play, then I guess your only option is to lug your decks around with you. Good exercise for you, at least. ;)

Just bought a macbook.....got Ableton on the go, got my bcd2000 mixer (shit as it is) working with it and my Native Insttruments Audio Kontrol soundcard! Upshot is its sounds superb......setup in a fraction of the time that I did with my pc based laptop!

Also have 1 Gemini PT-2410 deck to add into the mix....so Im getting there! If anyone knows of anyone selling one of those decks at a reasonable price.....then let me know :)

Play out more, you'll notice anything pitched beyond about 5% either way sounds shit on a proper system, it might sound fine over ur hi-fi speakers at home but on a true system the tune will be noticebly squeeky or boomy in a way no amount of EQ can fix. Now yes there is timestretching but that sounds shit once you go too far with it as well. If you want a tune at a differnt tempo so you can piss about with it learn to produce and remix the fucker at said new tempo. If you wanna do any tempo changeing shizznizz in your sets again learn to produce and stick a tempo change in, this has the advantage of keeping everything in key so the tempo change doesn't grate like it does when you hear the DJ push the tempo up by anything more then about 2%.

Never leave home without decks, it can only bring misary. Played a bit at a party last night, some people were loveing it, quite a few "can you play something we can dance too" requests. But still a few people proper buzzed it so all was good.

Yea ground floor in any city/town type enviroment always sucks.

For me I played a very mellow selection, started off with a bit of old skool, hardtrance and hardcore breaks moveing onto a bit of liquidy ragga jungle and topping it all off with a bit of jump up/hardcore. I wasn't playing my most evil chopped up ragga stuff, or breakcore, or gabba and yet still it was apprently too hard! Tsssssssk. Had a few people ask for pendulum as well, I havn't brought a single one of tgheir tunes as a point of principal. Though I really should, its the easist way to get a non DnB crowd danceing to DnB, however its still pointless cos they stop danceing as soon as you mix out.

Nah its alright I'm never gonna stoop to the level of buying pendulum though I do have a very special remix on the go which might mean I have to.

And sperge I'm very used to that comment, theres not that many people in civalised society that appreciate rave music :-(

oo000 don't do it. don't buy pendulum!!

luckily i haven't had any negativity regarding the shit i play, only one time this happened when i played a house party full of hardhouse electro liquid drum n bass heads, n i put on some filthy ardtek with ragga jungle and some gabba for good measure. they all watched and stood still for a while but after 10 mins they were liking it, quite a few of em came to bangface when i played too :D

im slowly getting my new housemates into breakcore too...all of them like paulie walnuts and twinhooker <3 next to harder shit.

Just stopping by

I bought a pair of Gem PT-2000 MK2s for £200 about 3 years ago along with about 100 DnB vinyl for £100 from a couple of mates.

I have NEVER played on the decks, and now they're virtually worthless.

However, I have now sold all my DnB vinyl (for £100... I couldn't mix DnB for shit and only got through about 1/4 of the job lot on my mate's decks one evening) and split up with my girlfriend so I finally have time to start playing on them :D

Should make things interesting for my prospects of playing obscure electronica/EBM/metal/cheese at parties. Can't see much else coming of it though

You can't go wrong with a pair of Technics, they have strong and reliable smooth motors and even though they only have +/- 8% pitch you'll find that that's plenty if you plan on mixing single genres, i.e. Jungle with Jungle. :) Fucking go for it!!!
