some of the easy 4/4 dnb isnt too hard but i love the cutup stuff and ive made it a lot harder for myself really. but like you say buzz, you have to love the process and having seen and loved djs for years now its such a pleasure to have a crack at it meself. im messing about not having a clue what im doing and loving it, the one headphone on/one headphone off thing has been a longtime dream!

ive got two copies of the same record in the post and im just going to be patient and accept it will be aaaages before im even a capable beatmatcher. just that fact that i have a record collection now is exciting!

and i have scoured the charity shops for some gems to mix in - ive found ride of the valkries, beethovens5th, the west side story soundtrack ('mariaaaaa!') and the greatest hits of both barry manilow and chris de burgh....always an entertaining mashup round mine

Yes, I love being an amateur, learning and pulling off the dodgiest mixes, but always learning, and misternuge , I hear you on the mixing part of DnB it is much harder as thats what I am working with, the look on my flat mates face when i think I have pulled off some magic but clearly is not, priceless ..... fucking loving it large ... :wackyhat:

you'd be surprised actually, beatmatching doesnt take that long to get the hang of but its one of those 'easy to learn hard to master' things- i spent ages trying to figure it out on our old nasty belt driven decks with no luck at all, then as soon as i had a go on my mates technics it all just came through beautifully. i still cant mix to save my life though :P

Beat matching is one of those skills that will just suddenly oneday make sense, and then you will be able to lickidy-slick from then on in. Its the rest of the turntablist tricks that are more demanding. Like its been said before on this thread, dont bother with belt drive they are gash. When you can afford, get yourself a good vestax or technic pair as quick as you can. You seriously will not regret it.

to be honest my belts arnt that bad atall, they pick up pretty quickly and have fairly decent torque.
at the time i bought them i couldnt have afforded DDs for shite, and ive learnt well on them, its only now that im beginging to play clubs and bigger partys that im needing to upgrade.
also, what mixers do u lot have, and what would you have if you had the money?

This is my lovely stanton mixer, got it for just over a 100 quid off ebay, well nice to use.

My decks are the Kam DDX3000, cheap and very cheerful. 3kgs of torque which is way more than the 1210s , so im told :o
With some nice stanton carts etc. the only thing is they dont look as swish as the pricier brand names.

Anyway its the DJ not the decks which make the party! :boxer:

For me, they're "instant-hangover". Granted it's not immediate (nice rush beforehand) but it's consistent - unless I'm pilling, I ALWAYS get a hangover after taking poppers, even if I haven't been drinking :?
