Early Lineup release.Good or Bad?

Postby Jemo » 08 Jul 2008, 09:44

Every year the line up has been given there and then on the thursday, and for most I am guessing it is one of the surprising and exciting parts, sitting down with a cold one planning your journey, well for me it is, so come this Glade I was slightly disappointed we got it now, I mean, it has upped my excitement, and time will go much slower looking at it everyday, however part of me still wishes they hadn’t of done it, and also makes me wonder why they wanted too, maybe to save money?

Anyhow what does everyone else think?

Re: Was releasing the line up early a good idea?

Well, there was a time when the organisers tried to keep a lid on absolutely everything if you remember, the most notorious aspect being the "secret location".

One of the big factors in getting this board noticed in the early days was the line-up rumours list (which was against the organisers' wishes at the time!), so this secrecy was actually good for the board at the time ;) if not for the festivalgoers in general. More discussion of that in the-glade-and-this-board-t5751.html to avoid taking this thread on a tangent.

Releasing the timetable is I think a good move on the organisers' part because there's still a little less excitement than around this time last year and this is a way of cranking things up a bit. I know that getting the line-up when you go through the gate adds to excitement of getting there, but I can see why they've had to do things this way.
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

While i agree with you to some extent, im glad they have released it. This is simply because i can look at it and work out what ill forget to go and see long before the event has even started. Happens every year, i work out plan and it goes tits up and i end up havin it at the Origin stage. (note to self- avoid origin stage).

How can this be a bad thing?!!

Last year I got a programme on the way in, got drunk, left it outside, it rained for about 15hours solid and got washed away! Didn't see half the acts I wanted to, spent half the night asking people what was on and when, as I couldn't find anywhere that had programmes for sale!

Great to be planning, great that they are not charging a tenner for a laminated piece of plastic like so many other festivals (although these make fab souvenirs of course!) and great that I can make my own personalised timetable in advance. Of course whether I stick to it or not is irrelevant :P

I think it's great as it builds excitement, although the excitement is at an almost unbearable level now!

Going through the line-up on the thursday is always good fun but this way you can concentrate all your efforts on drinking heavily!!

As one of the people who would've gone to glade this year even if the line-up had still been secret I don't like it being realeased. Not knowing who's playing when added to the tension for me last year now I feel thursday will be slightly anticlimatic. It'l all be made up for once the music is turned on on friday though :D
