Glade 2008 lineup rumours

Postby Sperge » 03 Jan 2008, 21:19

[Edit: - this is the 2008 thread. Please go to glade-2009-lineup-confirmations-and-rumours-t6554.html to see our rumours and confirmations for 2009!]

This thread is for some of the wilder speculation. If you have any actual confirmations (whether they are artists confirming themselves on their own websites or Myspace, or official announcements elsewhere), please post them in http://www.gladtalk.co.uk/forum/glade-2 ... t4750.html

I'll start this one off with a few speculations of my own:

Juno Reactor - just a hunch, nothing more. They're starting a European tour in Greece in April and played a stonking set in 2006, I'm sure the Glade folks would be keen to have them back.

Dreadzone - it's just not Glade without Dreadzone, is it? Speaking of which, here's the Dreadzone Glade 2008 river run video again:

:wackyhat:

Aphex Twin - we'll get countless posts about Mr Richard D James, so I'll get mine in first. He last played in 2005, he's long overdue for a return. But if you know anything about Mr James, you'll know that he only plays events when he feels like it. Therefore no-one will really know for sure until the final few weeks.

Squarepusher - as above.

I imagine you can add the liquid artists (organasimic, mood deluxe, zubzub, slackbaba etc) to the strong rumours lists as they all seem to play every year too

Classic. :haha:

On a more serious note, I think it's fair to say that certain parts of the line-up are fairly predictable, but it's a dangerous game to make assumptions as we've found from past experience. When the GT list says something is a "strong rumour", it's got to have something corroborating it otherwise we just call it a plain "rumour".

Re warehouse project

It was a good set, but I was a little dissapointed because he included very few of his stuff in his set.

But overall it was an amazing night, honorable mention goes to LUke Vibert who probably played the best set of the night.

I spoke to Ben from Juno Reactor, I don't think they're playing this year :(

They have a gig in London on the 18th, and they haven't been contacted by the festival organisers yet.

though saying that, anyting's still possible: they'll be in the area....

Heres someone else you can add to the strong rumours lists:

The Zap (New project from Raja Ram from Shpongle/1200 Mics/Tip World and Benji Vaughn from Prometheus/Younger Brother)
Looks like glade could be their first live show too

Nice detective work there, yohankiwi.

Does look substantial enough to qualify as 'strong'. Will add to the next update.

Edit: no, it doesn't qualify as 'strong' yet. No evidence of an actual booking there, they're just saying they're up for it, but we know nothing from the Glade side yet. Rumour it stays for now...

Drop the lime - Ned tried to book him last year but he was unable to make it. I dont see why he wouldn't be playing this year

Dj assault / Lukes Anger - Both artists were unable to get to the festival last year due to the floods. I would of thought Ned would want them to perform this year

Venetian Snares - He vowed never to play a set in england again after last years tempure tamptrum but he is now playing bangface.....From ned's comments last year, he wants him to come back and play a proper set this year. If the overkill get the funktion one sound system as promised, i see no reason to why he wouldn't play

Bestival have announced a fair chunk of their line-up today, including Aphex Twin, billed as an "English festival exclusive." I also heard from a mate earlier that he's playing T in the Park in Scotland, so unless Glade is moving to Wales it doesn't look good...

Well, I suppose there's still the "he could still play a DJ set" straw to clutch at...

It is three years since he last played Glade after all - but I guess for the time being he'll have to be dropped from the list. No point in building up false hopes...

If I'm not mistaken they hyped My bloody Valentine as an English festival exlusive, not AFX

They're definitely claiming him as an English festival exclusive:

Well.. It's impossible to say. The line-up has yet to be announced, so we don't even know if he'll play. Also we don't know what stages will be included in this years festival ( apart from the vapour stage ).

To try and make a judgement on what unknown stage an artist who may not play perform on is impossible and rather silly! Roll on 27/02/08

Anyone know whether "laptop performance" means Aphex will be playing live/his own material?

Went to Manchester warehouse last December which was ok but would be nice to here Mr James play some Aphex classics...

Behave. :nono:

smileyschmoo, I'm pretty sure that does mean a live performance from Aphex. And seeing as Bestival are claiming that they are the only English festival where he will be doing that this year, it will most likely be a DJ set elsewhere if he plays at all.

This from the festival weather website about Glade 08:

"Here are the rumoured big techno names.

jeff mills, adam beyer, surgeon, ben sims, derrick may, jim masters."

Not sure how reliable but if so - JEFF MILLS!!

And was hoping for a Derrick May return after last year's set

All seem plausible enough, especially with the good reputation Glade has won among the Detroit giants. Have they given a source for that?

No source - they do say "jeff mills looking more and more likely for Glade" but have no idea where they get this from.

If the organisers want to match or even beat last year's techno line-up then JM is one of the few dj's of the calibre to do that don't you reckon...?

Well, there was a rumour he would play last year, but that proved short-lived.

It's certainly worth looking for gaps in his schedule, that's for sure. I'd like it even better if Carl Cox were to play but that's a little less likely.
