As much as I hate the term, I would say Glade started out as a "boutique" festival, by any common definition. It certainly was in 2004 and 2005, maybe in 2006, but IMO it only stopped being so temporarily because of the overcrowding and the rain in 2007, and the relative lack of fancy decorations in 2008. It was always their intention to return to form once they'd trialled a bigger setup. Glade's always been the epitome of how a boutique festival SHOULD be - polite but fun-loving crowds, not too busy, great décor and lots of random things to see and do, but above all, great music and a willingness to par-tay. I just hope the hippies don't stay away because I missed them this year.
Secret Garden Party is another good example of how I think a boutique festival should be (and arguably more so than Glade).
Commerce-fests like The Big Chill miss the point entirely and so attract people who don't get the point and just want to sit around in their flip flops whilst listening to some non-challenging music. That said, the point may have been deliberately missed to maximise profits, but that's just my assumption about TBC.
