Get your diaries out, the Glade 2009 dates are 16 to 19 July 2009.

They're doing discounted early bird tickets for people who went in 2008 too.

Glade Festival 2009

All good things must evolve and adapt.

The Glade is evolving and has paid serious attention to all the wonderful people that have helped make it the extraordinary event that it is...

With huge excitement the UK's leading electronic music festival is back in 2009 with loads of new concepts, ideas, music and art which is all sure to set a new standard.

We're delighted to be able to offer a limited amount of tickets on early release.

We have 1000 tickets at a reduced price of £115 (+booking fee).

The full price is £125 (+booking fee). You can buy them now at that price.

...Or if you'd rather you can pay a £50 deposit per ticket with the balance paid in March 2009. This deposit is for the £125 ticket only. ie you will be charged an extra £75 (+£7 booking fee) per ticket. If you decide to cancel these tickets you will incur a charge of £10 per ticket but it does mean you can stagger your payment. This option is only available on a limited number of tickets.

Camper Van Tickets will be available later.

---

The Glade Festival website is at present under construction. We have very little information about what's going on there but we can let you know that there's alot of commotion going on in the creative nerve centre! You will be alerted with news as soon as it happens....

Depends on whether the Glade people will be kind enough to give us competition tickets again. If they do, I'm sure we'll come up with something suitably wacky.

Also, isn't it strange how all the festivals are putting their tickets for next year on sale now? Is this because they're worried about the recession that's due to hit? Better to get people to cough up their 120 quid now before their house gets repossessed in April...

It's only October but I've already got tickets for Bang Face Weekender, Glade and Bestival. I've also laid a deposit down for Glastonbury but I probably won't be able to go to that. Bah, those Eavis bastards have got a tenner out of me for fuck all!

The more advance ticket sales they have in the bag, the less of a panic in the summer. So yes, I can see why they're all doing it and the fears of recession are undoubtedly part of that.

It does also look like they're turning Glade into more of a "boutique" festival like Secret Garden Party etc. It seems a wise move, as that niche market has been doing OK.

In 1984, newspeak is the only language that gets smaller with every passing year.

In 2008, Glade is the only festival that does the same.

I should have given the Gtickets link for Glade 2009 tickets.

Remember there are 1,000 early bird tickets for £115. The standard tickets are £125. You can also pay a £50 deposit and pay the balance in March 2009.

As much as I hate the term, I would say Glade started out as a "boutique" festival, by any common definition. It certainly was in 2004 and 2005, maybe in 2006, but IMO it only stopped being so temporarily because of the overcrowding and the rain in 2007, and the relative lack of fancy decorations in 2008. It was always their intention to return to form once they'd trialled a bigger setup. Glade's always been the epitome of how a boutique festival SHOULD be - polite but fun-loving crowds, not too busy, great décor and lots of random things to see and do, but above all, great music and a willingness to par-tay. I just hope the hippies don't stay away because I missed them this year. :(

Secret Garden Party is another good example of how I think a boutique festival should be (and arguably more so than Glade).

Commerce-fests like The Big Chill miss the point entirely and so attract people who don't get the point and just want to sit around in their flip flops whilst listening to some non-challenging music. That said, the point may have been deliberately missed to maximise profits, but that's just my assumption about TBC.

Yeah, 2005 was my first Glade too. I hadn't even heard of most of the line-up at the time, I went for the vibe. There were quite a few people like me who didn't need "big names" to pull me there. But obviously people aren't all the same and some do need to have some big names up there.

Anyway, here's a bit more about 2009 that Ans has told me. It doesn't reveal very much at all, but at least gives you some idea of how they're thinking:

Anyway, as you know we can confirm that the Glade will be back again on July 16th-19th and everyone involved is excited and there is a general feeling that we really are going back to basics and the vibe of the original smaller festival. But with some key new things going down!

Glade will continue to be what we feel is a unique event combining the best in new electronic music with occasional classics from the past all presented in an environment that goes way beyond just sticking up a few venues in a field. We remain the same 4 partners who started the Glade back in 2004 and we feel as enthusiastic about the festival that we are planning for 2009 as we did about the first one. Obviously times have changed and realities need to be taken on board but we're sure that with the event next year is going to be epic...

I'm sure that you want to know more detail but right now we're going to keep our new ideas under our hats as we think that there's so much stuff that's going to excite people we'd rather release that information later...

+1. Whilst I'm definately of the agreement of not having any more pendulum style commercial headliners, i have to say that the highlights of my last two years have been the big names/headliners (UNKLE, squarepusher, trentemoller, the orb, autechre etc).

Still I have faith in the organisers to pull off another stormer. :)

but, as i said before sperge, i will have to go through all the hassle of coming from another country, i would like to see some good electronica names, and whilst i'm there, be pleasantly surprised with others that i did not know until then, as is what always happens in festivals.

if you consider 2005 a boutique year, i'm all up for that. there was a great vibe (as usual) and a great great line up.
