Is Glade 2009 happening?

Glade Festival is Britain's biggest and best non-corporate electronic dance music festival, with a proper havin' it vibe. Now based at a stately home in Norfolk.

Is Glade 2009 happening?

Postby xkejjer » 28 Jul 2008, 18:42

will it happen?

cause my friend who was working at glade told me that they were working on a loss and there were serious doubts about last year..

on the positive side, he was a bit fucked with drugs.

anyone has any idea?

There have been "friends of friends" saying it won't happen the following year since the first one. I think they'll have done OK but they'll obviously be taking account of the current depressed UK festivals market. I thought they had done enough this year to redeem the festival's reputation for next year (apart from the odd gripes that have already been well covered in other threads), I'm pretty sure they'll be back. 8)

yeah sperge i thought so too.. that the general feeling of the festival attendee was one of great great satisfaction.. my friend just mentioned the money thing.. but as i said he was mentally unstable ( :) ) at the moment of talking.. i hope he is very very wrong.

With all the rain and mud this year again, there's no way they could afford it! Two muddy years in a row is too much.

Just so people know that this hasn't been forgotten, Nick did get back to me to say: "decision re next year / where / when etc etc is not for a while yet".

This is entirely consistent with how they've done it in previous years. They tend to start making decisions for the following year around November. My money would be on it still being at Wasing next year after all the work they put in to getting a five-year licence, but we shall see.

i heard various rumours about glade over the weekend at bloom - one included glade losing £500,000 after this years event. But as with any rumour, take it with a pinch of salt, and wait for the official release...

Expect to see plenty of merchandising (i.e. official Glade DVDs, CDs etc) if they truly are skint. I doubt they've done that badly though - and at least everyone has been paid. These guys are very responsible like that, which is why they scaled down the event to ensure the books still balanced.

They certainly planned to make £500k less on the ticket sales - 4,000 punters @ £130 a pop, simple maths really.

Do we have any figures on the official attendance yet?
