Global Chavering

The joys of living in a field, sleeping in a cheap tent, braving the Portaloos and not worrying about being squeaky clean for a few days. It's festival time again!

Global Chavering

And you thought the security at Glade was over-zealous...

FESTIVAL CRIME 'SLIGHTLY UP'
Twelve people have been arrested and around 350 cautioned over drug offences at the Global Gathering music event, police said today.
Crime at the festival, near Stratford, Warwickshire, was slightly up on last year, according to a spokesman for Warwickshire Police.
Only one serious crime was reported in which a man, in his late 20s, was assaulted near the outside arena during the early hours of today.
He was taken to Alexandra Hospital, in Redditch, with injuries to his head, face and body.
The spokesman said overt policing and some covert intelligence-based police work led to high policing of the festival.
He said there had been a 40% increase on drug possession cautions compared to last year.
Most of the offences were detected by sniffer dogs at the entrance to the site, where officers policed lines of visitors waiting to go into the event.
Several people were arrested in relation to a stolen vehicle, disqualified driving and also drink and drug offences and a number of uninsured vehicles were seized.
A total of 80 crimes were reported, mostly relating to thefts from tents and a small number of thefts from motor vehicles.
Chief Inspector Chris Lewis, from Warwickshire Police, said: "Overall the festival has gone well, with the vast majority of young people behaving themselves and with only a small number of crimes being reported.
"However, there has been a serious assault early this morning and detectives would like to hear from anyone who has information to help with police inquiries."
Anyone with information about the assault should call Stratford CID on 01926 415000.
End

Niiice. Managed to get two weekend tickets for £100 off some girl at work and headed down for the Friday night. Only went to see Daft Punk and Groove Armada live sets.
Nasty crowd. Absolutely no friggin way I would ever dream of camping there. Girls walking around in their underware.
Saw a massive fight with guys running in from some distance to get a punch in. Wonder If that was the fight where that guy had to be taken to hospital??

Was very happy to have caught the sets that I wanted, but no intention of heading to G-G ever again.

i can believe it. theres no comparison to glade though as it seems festivals like that only exist to boost arrest statistics. see how the C.I said overall it had gone well. major  from me. how much back-handerage do they have to give the O.B? & most the folk that go, quite young & naiive, too balant.

i thought glade were pushing it by mixing up breaks with psy & idm & ambient & stuff. luckily, older (in general) better behaved crowd & music that's nearly, but not quite, opposites kept it all together. now look at globals line ups. to me it looks like they're asking for trouble.

i thought that was an american candy-raver thing!? lol

glade crowd is mint, i get a bit biased sometimes & put it down to age groups, but there was plenty of younger folk who are dead friendly, cool people on site, so maybe i need to review that one!

Sounds good to me! :P

Actually, we went last year and had a great time. If there was any trouble last year, it was confined to certain tents and we found the atmosphere great. We initially only had Friday tickets and actually came to see Underworld more than anything else.

Astonishingly, and disappointingly, Underworld did a shit set. :o

But we loved the feel of the festival so much that we ended up sleeping in the car and buying Saturday tickets off a tout in the morning, then spent most of the day and night in the breaks and Carl Cox tents. One of our mates did stay in the campsite, which was seriously overcrowded last year, and he ventured into the DnB tent once or twice and that was chav central. I guess the Godskitchen tent would have been bloody awful too.

used to go when i was at warwick uni, was a stones throw from my student digs. Was fun when we had a mini-bus of us going along, Bedrock / prog arena's were always fun. But yes, chav filled crowds but never quite as bad as creamfields

Fair Point about the crime numbers/total punter numbers.

Well after weekend of mixed luck (story for another thread) here is a Global related story...Girlfriend lost her phone on the Friday night...got a text from it today from whoever has it offering to post it back to her! They didn't want money, just asked for a donation to the NSPCC. Did not expect that from someone of the Global crowd... :)
