Going solo to a festival

Postby dinnwarde » 09 Jul 2008, 22:34

What is it like?

This year will be the first time i have ever done it, as none of my mates are into the music, and i only won the one ticket (although i am well chuffed that both me and Jemo get to go, its only fair, cake crew!! :))

Shall hopefully be joining you lot at the GT camp, if i can find it, not sure what time that green bus from Manc will arrive, may have to get someones number and meet up - looking forward to meeting you all :wackyhat:

To be honest, the guy who came with me last year was being well boring (pissed off with the mud and being a moody git all weekend) - he would just get wrecked and crash out in his tent at about midnight every night, so i was practically alone then, and i met loads of wicked people and had a great time :D

I cant think of any other festival that is better for friendliness than Glade, and it will be a mad adventure getting all the way down on my own

Cant wait !! :) :panic:

Just wondered how many others are doing the same

Going solo is the best way to go, dinn, especially compared to having a boring mate in tow. You're free to see what you want when you want, go on random wanders, meet interesting new people etc. Should be a belter of a Glade for you. :)

Being a bit fick, I was wondering what DOA was, but I guess it's Dogs On Acid?
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

If you have any useless mates who are still dithering about coming to Glade, show them this article: http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/glade-festival-2009.shtml

Yea I'm not on there so much these days either. Read more than I post, but like to keep up with what's going on in the world of dnb, label news, new tunes, dl mixes etc, and of course, there are some excellent threads from time to time! Currently loving the architecture one!

oh..I post as misdemeanor :)

I've flown to Stockholm for a day trip before now. Glade would be a fucking piece of cake in comparison!!

My main tip would be to get your balls out of your ass and just say hello to everyone nearby, introduce yourself and they will probably bring you on board :) I've lost count of the number of random people I've ended up talking to whilst stood at a stage on my own. I'll probably never see them again and especially if it's a girl I try not to say too much, but each and every 2 mins conversation with a random makes me feel like I'm reaching out to the festi and getting involved. Hopefully me talking to them has the same effect on them!

Oh and don't be ashamed of just standing around near a stage and smiling at people. The more obvious you make yourself as a solo-stander-around-people-watcher, the more randoms will smile at you as they pass and you might even get some conversations! The dudes around the stalls are fixed and they will talk to everyone.

talking to randoms at festivals is the best bit for me. i hardly ever do it back in the straight world. this year i'm going with some people I originally met randomly at glasto 03! there is no better environment for meeting people and making friends.

"going to the weekender?"
"love to but there's not enough of us"
"same"
"take my number..."

harry, if you need us to spot a scottish dude picking litter you'll need to go around shouting "HOOTS MON" every time you pick something up

Alone is the best way to go, went with half of Manchester last year and I must have seen all of 2 complete sets the whole weekend, the more mates you have the more "Oh I just need the toilet", "Oh I'm just going back to the tent too..." and "Oh we should go see...". But then again I do hate people, and being a hermit would be my dream job.

erm, well, this year, none of my mates could make it to the glade either through other plans (how could they?!!), skintness, or general other stuff.....i thought I wouldn't be able to go and was down in the dumps especially having enjoyed it so much for the past three years...then it struck me...why not go solo style?! at first I thought it might be weird, but then I remembered other random soloists from last year that I met, and they were really sorted and chilled! so, this year, I will be going on my lonesome, turning 30 on the saturday, but, rather than feeling lonely, I know I'll be surrounded by some of the best and most up4it people in the world, and combined with fantastic music, esp the origin stage (a personal favourite), trees everywhere, and a billion things to see and do, I think it will be great, even if it rains! having survived last years mudbath, I'm ready for anything!
so, if you so a guy dancing at the origin stage spinning poi, probably wearing a ghost busters tshirt or an old skool eat static or return to the source tshirt, come and say hello! :D

Going with mates to a festival is booooring. It's so much more fun to just wander wherever you want to whenever you want to and chat to whoever. There's nowt more annoying than having to stop raving because your mate is tired/hungry/needs the loo...And if you camp withGladtalk there'll be about 20 people you'll be bumping into all over the place.

i agree with this dude! to be honest, whilst I've loved being at glade with mates in the past, esp when chilling at tents etc, some of my best moments have been the random "lost three hours" spent down at origin meeting randoms! however, it is always nice to hook up with pals at some point. this year however, I'm going on my own...should be ok! surrounded by like-minded people, fantastic music (the best!!!) etc etc! anyway, we are all interbeing - what we do effects others....enjoy the glade, spread the positive vibes...e n j o y ! :D

Hey, I'm also going solo to Glade this week.

Gone solo to festivals before. Hasn't worked quite so well for me in the sense that I try to find a group to hang around with yet always feel like an outsider... Difficult to explain.

What I'd really like is to camp with a few other people that are also going solo so that we all have a group and are not outcast by relations in any way, we are all socially nuetral :panic: !

But yeah, I can dream
