Dear Sunrisers,
Just a few days away from Sunrise at Big Chill. With all the magic and usual sensory treats you've
come expect from sunrise, plus the fact that everyone’s got the whole Big Chill to wander about
means that this will be unlike any other festival around.
From the solar eclipse ceremony, and the Astro Heart Share, to the Ethical Fashion Show our aim
has been to make this Sunrise experience as fun as possible while still retaining our ethical nature,
(still a site wide organic food policy and still run on 100% renewable energy). Our sponsors, the
charity SolarAid, are also still with us so make sure you bring along your old mobiles, (check the
info at the bottom of the newsletter).
Make sure you and all your friends have got your tickets sorted out for the festival (check the
information below) and then come along and enjoy- we all deserve a good party!
Sunrise At The Big Chill Ticket Newsflash
As we get ever closer to Sunrise at The Big Chill, some people are still feeling a bit bemused.
They say they really want to join us there... but the deadline to swap tickets has passed. Some
even say they got refunds by mistake. Or they didn't realise what was on offer. This is especially
true for those who haven’t got – or don’t often use - email. Believe it or not, there are still such folk.
IS THIS YOU?
IS IT SOMEONE YOU KNOW?
If so... all is not lost. The 'easy swap' option is gone but there's still a way to make it happen as
long as you are QUICK!
THE OFFER CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT ON WEDNESDAY 30th JULY
But first, a very IMPORTANT announcement.
If you haven't been issued an actual BIG CHILL ticket, you can't come to Sunrise at the Big Chill.
Everyone should have received their tickets by now
If you just turn up at the gate, hoping to do a swap at the box office.. it won't happen.
No arrangement in advance... no entry.
PLEASE
If you hear anyone saying "I'm off to Sunrise at The Big Chill" ask them "Are you sorted for proper
tickets?"
Don't let them waste their time and petrol.
So... how, at this late hour, do you GET sorted?
Read on.

The Solar Eclipse and Astro Heart Share!
Something we’re very excited about here in the office is the partial solar eclipse, due to happen on
Fri 1st August between 9.30am and 11am. Where 1000s of people will be invited to come along to
the Sunrise central fire and take part in a solar ceremony. Sunworshippers.org will be bringing along
three Hydrogen Alpha Solar Telescopes, which can be used throughout the weekend for those
wanting to soak up a little solar energy. These telescopes pass an incredibly narrow bandwidth of
the Hydrogen (red) end of the spectrum. They are safe for educational and public use. So you can
either view the eclipse through one of the telescopes or do it the old fashioned way with some solar
spectacles, either way things will be looking bright in the Sunrise field on Friday morning, and that’s
not dependent on the weather, by the way.
According to astrologers the solar eclipse heralds the opening of hearts and the discarding of old
restrictions and the discovering of new joys, so after you’ve been to the solar ceremony come over
to the Astro Heart Share tent and sign up for a weekend of site wide speed dating with an Astro
twist.
“This, In essence, is the world’s largest “speed dating” event. Only it’s not just about dating. It’s
about making friends, networking, meeting people, discovering soul mates and deepening affinities.
Festivals are full of likeminded folk who you just know you’re going to enjoy getting to know. Here’s
a way to take a quick interaction and turn it, potentially, into a lifelong connection.” Says Jonathan
Cainer, who will be hosting the event.
Every single person who comes to The Big Chill, regardless of whether they’re a ‘Sunriser’ or not, is
invited to take part.

The Sunrise Up and Coming Designer Section will feature our very own Sunrise designers who are:
Amanda Chambers: Amanda’s label, ‘Haruka’, is named after her half Japanese son and means ‘
infinite’. Her clothes have a strong eastern influence and are made in Nepal using materials, such
as hemp and bamboo, which both require very little water or pesticides to grow. She also donates
10% of her profits to the Nepalese children’s charity P.A.D.H.A. who aim to educate children in a
culturally sensitive way in Nepal.
Jenny McCarty: Makes beautiful clothes from all the old rags we throw away. It’s amazing to see
what she can do with a frumpy, old woollen jumper. Her new range of summer designs are made
from a material which is composed of 100% recycled cotton and made in Britain. “This is a very
exciting opportunity for me, as a small business women working in Somerset. My clothes are all
designed and made by me, with the use of recycled materials”, said Jenny McCarty, who runs a
stall most Tuesdays at Glastonbury market.
Sophie Harrison: Who has been working with felt for 10 years and trained in Switzerland with a
French felt maker, designing and making pieces for large fashion houses such as, John Paul
Gaultier, Versace and Fendi. She makes unique, handmade felt clothing from natural fibres. “I like
to promote myself as an artist rather than as a fashion designer my waistcoats are all bespoke,
felted, sculptured clothing”, said Sophie
Anna Sundari: Designer of both handmade jewerley and clothes. She works with silk, hemp and
suede, and creates beautiful, natural, breathable clothing. Anna also incorporates sacred
geomentry into her designs and some of her clothes have beautiful geometric mandalas sewn onto
them. She works with natural, organic materials and vegetable dyes.
Naturals Fibre Company: Based in Wales, the NFC breeds rare sheep, like the Gotland sheep to
produce small quantities of wool which are then spun and made into natural, undyed, organic
clothes.
There will also be the “Big Chillers Vintage Sashay” for those Sunrisers who have discovered a
garment ‘of a certain age’ that is still a ravishing beauty.
We’re aiming to highlight some very important issues with the show, like slave labour, the effects of
mass produced cotton on the land, the plight of the Tibetans and the use of certain chemicals used
to produce clothes. The fashion show will take place on Saturday 2nd August in the Big Chill Nights
Tent, which is in the field next door to the Sunrise arena. You can also go and visit the designers at
their stalls in the Sunrise craft field and talk to Pants to Poverty and EJF in the Sunrise campaigns
area.

Recycle your mobile phones at The Big Chill and help raise funds for SolarAid projects in
Africa
Do you have unused mobile phones lying around the house? Then bring them to The Big Chill! £4
from each phone will go towards SolarAid’s projects in Zambia, bringing urgently needed energy to
some of the poorest communities.
There are about 90 million unused handsets in the UK – a figure that is increasing day by day. The
components in the handsets take centuries to break down if put in landfill, and can leak toxic
substances into the ground. So, rummage through your drawers and bring all your unwanted
phones to The Big Chill. There will be special phone recycling bins dotted around the festival and at
the SolarAid Sun Hut in the Sunrise Arena.
