Magik Bullet

Magik Bullet is one of Plymouth's longest running club nights. Over the years, Magik Bullet has played host to some of the biggest artists in breaks and house. Baobinga + ID, 30Hz, High Eight, Matt Brown (Sancho Panza), Tom Real, Far Too Loud, Hoffman + Model 101, Kickflip, Jinx and more. Magik Bullet prides itself on supporting underground artists and has a keen eye for future talent. The crowd that comes to Magik Bullet, comes because of the strong name that has been built up over the 4 years. Constantly innovating taking in multiple genres such as techno, electro, dubstep and psy-breaks. Some have tried to copy our formula and line-ups, but it has proved futile.



Rektchordz

Cornwall has already given us world class artists like Aphex Twin & Luke Vibert, fast forward to 2008 and 22 year old Rektchordz has been making waves in Spain and the UK. He (along with his brother De-Ranged) is one of the most in-demand british breakbeat DJs in Spain and the irony is that many people in the South West have yet to take serious notice.

When an artist releases a mix with 90% of their own tunes then its definitely time to take notice.

Jay Rektchordz was originally known for tearout breakbeat and had releases on Mechanoise and Breaks FM records. The tearout sound is huge in Spain with DJs often just playing a series of buildups and breakdowns. It seemed as if Spain was going through its rave period and this kind of music was the perfect soundtrack to that.

However in the past year or so Jay has started to embrace other sounds and has integrated them into his brand new sound. Jay’s attituded is “good music is good music” and prides himself on experimental sounds and new ideas to help push the scene into new and interesting directions. He has been on Magik Bullet's radar for quite some time and we thought we would invite him in to play before he got way too big for us!!

Magik Bullet celebrated their 4th Birthday on the 10th May 2008. It is known as one of Plymouth's best parties and encompasses music from across the board of house, techno, breaks, wonky house, bleepy house and whatever rocks! Magik Bullet has played host to some of the biggest names in underground dance music and has a fanatical following that extends around the South West, UK.

Ollie 303 from http://www.southwestunderground.net was on hand to record all of the sets from the 4th birthday and now we present 30Hz set. 10 minutes after 30Hz arrived at the club, a thief stole his record bag, almost scuppering his chance of playing. Quick thinking staff and promotion team scanned CCTV and identified the thief, the thief wandered back into the club later on in the night and he was made to reveal the location of the bag. 30Hz got his records back and this is the result.......

Not often I upload a mix nowadays (in fact this is my first strictly techno one) but I've got into techno over the last year or two, started doing my own productions and it's going pretty good.

I haven't played with ableton yet, seems like it could be used to wicked effect though, got some great ableton mixes kicking about the hard drive
