Far too big for the Glade Stage at Glasto, especially with all the excitement about them reforming. They've always been able to fill one of the main stages (usually the Other Stage). Even in 2004, when the whole "dance music is dead" crap was going around, they had a much bigger crowd than the Pyramid headliners (Muse). The crowd went all the way back into Pennards.

I don't think you quite realise just how popular Orbital's proper live shows will be, as opposed to a Phil Hartnoll/Longrange set. They are a much bigger draw than the likes of Squarepusher etc to the outside world.

I suppose they were at their peak before my time. Hopefully they'll play though, a few of my friends who saw their "last" show at glastonbury that year said it was one of the best things they've seen.

That set was nowhere near as good as previous ones I had seen (or the one I saw afterwards at T in the Park or the Maida Vale session). It was a bit of a shit crowd towards the back apparently, a bit wooden, although people who were that far back blamed the Other Stage's shitty sound system. I was up at the front of course, so it was party time up there. :) Also, they were tending to stop in between tracks instead of their usual mixing from one to the other, which was a bit lame.

The crowd for their set in the King Tut tent at TitP was much more like it, proper up-for-it party people all the way through it. Apart from some of the indie kids at the front who were there for bloody Snow Patrol who were headlining that tent (Orbital were a very late addition - I guess TitP's money talked). It was so, so funny seeing some of those kids scowling their way through the set in contrast to all the madness behind them.

:haha:

Quite. The crowd for their slots on the Other Stage was always enormous. Orbital are proper big time when it comes to dance music acts, especially when it comes to the Glastonbury crowd who they have a bit of a special thing with ("mistakes" they always make etc)... the Glade just wouldn't cope.

Bangface Glade takeover at Worthy Farm though.....! Now that'd be a Friday night out!! :D

Heh, Bang Face at Glastonbury would be quite something. Although the Glade stage has to faff about with that silent disco bollocks after midnight doesn't it?

Whirl-Y-Gig were at one of the dance tents in 2007 (and maybe this year too, I dunno) so it's not unheard of for club nights to make their presence felt at Glastonbury. Although all the Whirl-Y-Gig invasion amounted to was one DJ playing in the afternoon and a couple of crap posters sellotaped to stuff in the tent....

But hang on, I'm not going next year am I? No, Bang Face at Glastonbury is a terrible idea!

The good thing about having it at the Glade at Glastonbury is that Glastonbury dont have any sound restrictions (that i've noticed).

Innit. Even the people I know off another board who have been going there for years vowed "Never again" after this year.

A lot of the people on Loopz (the official Orbital board) plan on going to BC though.

B chill? Really?.... I mean really?
Is there nothing can be done about this?
Glasto would be sweet, and a great way for evis to do right some certain wrongs ending in Z.

Can we somhow appeal to them? Snowballs chance in hell but worth a shot.

Well, Big Chill still aren't claiming it as an exclusive. Hopefully that's a good sign that it isn't a one-off.

But it's certainly being presented as the comeback gig at the moment. And Big Chill does come later in the year than Glasto... :(

What really needs to happen is for them to play BFW of course... ;)

I still don't get why everyone was so upset about Jay-Z. It was the main stage (Orbital would almost certainly be Other, I'd think) and was about a billion times better than having Coldplay or The Killers again! First Saturday headliner I've properly watched since Radiohead...

I didn't see the big deal either. Especially since the most vocal critic was one Noel Gallagher, whose band's performance in 2004 was one of the worst headline sets in memory.

the more i think about this the more i reckon they'll do glastonbury- it'd help get the tickets sold, even in these crunchy times.

Well, pesh was saying on FW that he knows someone who says they're going on tour. Pesh generally knows what he's talking about on these things, so I'm sure his info is good. Will try to find out more.

Gonna have to wait for a different festival, I think. I'm going to be at Glastonbury anyway, so fingers crossed for there. Would love to see them again, but not enough to pay for a whole festival based on them, I don't think...

I've been told that not only are they playing other events but they're recording new material.
