Overkill

Big ups for getting the tent working when I heard security say on friday it might have been cancelled altogether I was gutted as it was the main reason I was there. On the minus side the sound at times was so quiet that you could hear people talking at normal volume next to you and even hear the sound of the main stage in the distance. I don't really understand why all the other tents had decent volume apart from that one? not only that but the volume was fine one minute and low the next. Total dips in sound from act to act as well. Plus the sound guys didn't respond even to requests to turn it up. On the plus side the music was amazing Enduser, Aaron Spectre, Ceephax, brilliant stuff . Also who was the guy who played before Snares dressed up as Beethoven?

Beardieman and Scotch Egg on the sunday was an experience. I enjoyed standing just outside in the sunshine watching all the casualties walk out with a look on their face that said 'Why did I just put myself through that?'

Oh, I must get my photos up and show the pics of the lake where the floor of Overkill was meant to be on Friday morning.

Haven't put them up yet as my digicam seems to have died today and I'll have to find another way to get the pics off the SD card.
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

If you have any useless mates who are still dithering about coming to Glade, show them this article: http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/glade-festival-2009.shtml

Hahaha! Shige's a good mate of mine and while I love the man I know he can run over if not politely nudged! And for the record Coki (DMZ) wasn't getting at all annoyed by Shige running over that was just me being overly anxious...Coki was very chilled and a lovely feller.

Argh, the Bangface balloons! Once they hit mud they were horrific!

Although the sight of a filthy dolphin smacking someone in the face who didn't spot it in time was pretty hilarious :D

The last few hours of saturday was banging....

Dolphin and Teknoist got it just right by playing gabba gabba gabba til the end.

Anyone else think Vexkiddy was really fun too? Must say i was really confused when they came on, but quickly end up going totally mental and spazing out.

EDIT: I heard that because the Overkill tent was so small, they couldn't fit in the sound cancelation system which is why it was so quiet... any truth in this? Can't they swap the half-empty, part-time vapor stage for Overkill next year?

Best part of the festival by a mile, spent much more time in there this year than the last two years. When it looked like it wasn't going to run on the Friday the mood in our camp was gutted to say the least, so a big thank you to the organisers for getting it sorted out as quickly as they did. The atmosphere in there was immense all weekend, everyone seemed determined to make sure the weather didn't hinder things too much.

Best set in there for me was Neil Landstrumm, an hour long mashup of techno, electro, doomcore and old school hardcore. Fantastic stuff, really well put together. Producer and Dolphin & Teknoist were awesome (loving the remix of Staying Alive), Enduser was filth, Jerome Hill played a great set of tunes from 91 to the present day, Tipper was cool although not as abstract as I'd expected.

The sound from the dj sets was diabolical though, especially on the Friday. Was looking forward to some old skool from Saint Acid but gave up after 10 minutes when it became clear we weren't going to get any more power than a Tandy stereo could have supplied. If they get that sorted next year then it'll be perfect.

Best sight for me was one of the Bangface crew putting out a bundle of 20 odd balloons into the crowd, and someone promptly grabbing them and popping each one :D Inflatables and mud in the face doesn't make for a good time...

Sound Levels

Postby NeilC » 24 Jul 2007, 10:44

To all you who have comented on sound levels in the Overkill stage. I was one of the lighting technicians for this stage so was working alongside the noise boys throught the festival. We constantly had a member of the sound management team at the FOH tower monitoring our levels and were told that we had to stick to a strict limit. As many people know The Glade festival isn't exactly loved by many of the locals so the local council are looking for any reason why not to grant a license in future years, part of this is the audio db limits which HAD to be adheared to both in the tent and from perimiter readings.

Ps. To the DJ that walked off during his set and tried to incite a riot YOU ARE A IRESPONSIBLE PRICK. we were already understaffed with security in the tent and to do this was fucking idiotic. Also to threaten the MONITOR ENGINEER is not just dangerous but also stupid...he looks after montiors...not the FOH system....twat...

to all you other gladers...hope you enjoyed it!

The problem is that none of the other stages seemed to suffer from these restrictions - the Origin stage could be heard all over the site and the Vapour stage was booming as well. I thought the live sets were fine in Overkill, but the dj sets were far too quiet at times.

Sound

Postby NeilC » 24 Jul 2007, 10:51

I appreciate that there were differences, all I know is that the engineers where trying to push up the volume but where being told to bring it back down. Noise retrictions are also measured with exposure in mind..i dont know if this might be a reason or wether Overkill has casued issues in the past so where leant on heavily ths year?!

It was around 10pm on the Friday. Never disappointed when he plays - he has a habit of pulling tunes out of the bag that you haven't heard in years and have forgotten all about.
