pendulum played live set @ bbc weekender yesterday

Postby liggins » 12 May 2008, 16:54

I was watching radio one's big weekend yesterday on interactive and watched pendulum playing a live set (like that they will be playing at glade)

Basically if you like nu-metal you'll love it...

If you dont like cheesy ozzy blokes singing .... lots . then personally i'd stay the hell away.

Does anyone remember seeing Dj zinc two years ago?

proper fat..

There's more than one stage, you know.

Half the people on here will spend all their music time in Overkill anyway.

Spot on Paul. Why worry about acts you think are crap when the biggest problem is going to choosing between acts you really like and clashing...

Nu metal? Eww.

I don't actually mind a bit of a stomp to Pendulum if I'm in the right 'frame of mind', but that sounds a bit wankyballs. I'll probably end up missing most of the main stage anyway, as I always seem to at festis.

I am going to try and visit different stages though as I have a habit of getting into a stomp in one and not leaving for 8 hours.

I never used to hate them, I didnt particularly like them either but i could certainly listen to Tarantula and their remix of voodoo people etc. and enjoy it. But now they're just so commercial its awful. Its quite obvious they're doing it just to please the masses. And I hate nu metal. I hate anything when the front man wails like that. I don't mind wailing when they're being a bit different, but when they're wailing just to keep people's attention its annoying.

Is there anything wrong with that though? I say fair play to them. But, of course, i dont understand really why glade have got them...

I downloaded their new track/video from Xbox Live the other day and it was :? Nothing like what they've done before (apart from their signiture lead saw or whatever it is they use). But they had verses and choruses of lyrics..more than usual...eep

I'm a bit bemused by their place on the bill at both Glade and Download this year. As a dedicated metalhead I can't understand it. I like the idea of a bunch of hardcore Slayer fans just bottling the shit out of them. I think certain crossovers just don't work in the hands of those who try them - recent Pendulum being a prime example. Someone mentioned Pitchshifter earlier in the thread... well, I'm not a fan, but it's obvious that both Pitchshifter and NIN did this kind of thing with far greater success, flair and integrity than Pendulum.

Grump over. I'm just happy they won't be the biggest name there since The Orb have been added, which, by the way, I'm very fucking happy out.

Saw Pitchshifter first on the main stage at Reading once.

They kicked ass.

Pendulum, in the same position, would not. There is no comparison!

Hear him, hear him...

(Or is it here, here? Ah, the wonders of language derivation)

Anyway. Pitchshifter are by far the best crossover band I've ever heard. As much as I love Infotainment?, www.p.com was a groundbreaking album from end to end and built from amazing constituent parts and it still stands the test of time some 12(?) years later. They're just as good live.

Pendulum are pretty weak. When Zinc played four or five tunes in 06 I thought they were pretty fucking good indeed, but they've aged very rapidly and they're way too commercial to be fun. When you've got a room jammed with sheep it's always better to go and frolic in the spacious field next door...
