first time ive been to glade, i loved it!

pros - friendly people, stalls, amount of different food outlets, variety of music

cons - thought the origin stage could have been a bit bigger, the sound wasn't great unless u were right in the middle of speakers.

can't wait to go again next year!!

Yeah!!!! In all my clubbing experiences so far, Glade is second to none in my opinion!!

Ahh bum, my mate ended up in there enough times as well!

Had a great time this year, weather was lovely on the whole and people & place were excellent. Couple of problems though, heard some stories of heavy-handed security from a couple mates, definitely need more water points near the stages, and most of all the volume. It did seem like there were problems in overkill Friday as things kept fluctuating, but it was pretty quiet all weekend later on.

On the plus side with that though, we had a natter with an old lady who lives about 2 miles up the road from the site on the Monday. She says normally she complains about the noise, but she wasn't even aware it was on until she saw us all going home! Still, if she wasn't noticing it during the day either...

Edit: Have I never made a post on here before? Could have sworn I did last year!

I quite liked having 'come n play' nr the quiet camping - by time I was sleeping was too smashed for it to keep me awake - and was nice to have some background tunes while refueling back at the tent.

This was first glade, we came all the way from Malta for it but it was dam worth it

pros....

Atmosphere (the best I ever experienced at a festival)
The lovely happy people
Music
great variety of food stalls
The camps being very close the arenas, so you don't have to walk much to your tent. This really helps especially when your totally wasted.
In Spiral
no long ques at the bars

cons...

not much really,

perphas the sound levels on Friday night.
And It will be nice if they let the In spiral run at least till midnight on Sunday

And to everyone who camped near the Mad orange Russian tent....Sorry! "BRICK INSIDE" (we found a brick on friday and it was our tents best friend)
Here is a big tip: if you want to make sure you dont get fucked over next year then just camp near us, we have Proper Russians:) (and if you beleive that then I will see you next year...)

I didn't go to the first one, but i definitely remember Sancho Y Panza having a tent there and some big electronica acts playing in the main stage. Remember at the time it having a similar style ethos to glade at glastonbury, psy trance, breaks, electronica, techno and then house and chill out stuff.

Had a great time and all my friends did too!

Pros:

1. Sound much better than 07.
2. DJ Scotch Egg. Always delivers the goods! Jeff Mills was pretty good too from what I can rememeber (see point 7 and 8.)
3. Heard tons of great music by artists I'd never heard of. Who needs expensive headliners?
4. Great vibes, nice people.
5. Weather.
6. Toilets. Well those near my camp were ok anyway.
7. Getting totally spangled on saturday night.
8. The camomile tea a random girl kindly shared with me to help with spangleness!


Minor Cons:

1. Alcohol policy.
2. Security searches are getting way over the top even for theatre.
3. My same yearly complaint: I want 3 full days of music, not 2 plus an afternoon. I buy my ticket knowing this is the situation but it still hacks me off every year.
4. Lack of decor. Origin stage looked neglected and unfinished.
5. Autechre. Complete darkness? Despite great music I just got bored and left.
6. A lot of fence jumpers this year. Could watch them coming in.

my first time at the Glade, and i have to say, i've never had a better time at a festival. fan-fucking-tastic. even the sound was actually okay except for a few minor glitches, and you get that at any festival.

pros:
fabulous atmosphere
wonderful people
granny's gaff (oooh, i do like a nice cup of tea and a sit down!)
dancing like a twat for the entire weekend
passing out in a pile of mates after dancing 'til we dropped
clean toilets!

cons:
the awful skipping cds blasting out from the general store opposite us. please, god, bring more than 3 cds, and when they skip, just give up. if i'd had cds with me, i'd have offered to share!
the fact that it had to end.

special shouts out to our neighbours for being fabulous and friendly and fun - you're all welcome aboard the Retardis!

hope to see some of the same fabulous people at Shamania this weekend.

Conversely, if thats what you want then why dont you fuck off to Shamania rather than going to something advertised as an 'electronic music festival'.


If Glade was just psy and breaks it would not be the stand out dance festival in the UK - its the variety and quality of acts on show that make it.


All we're saying is that if your aiming to be a festival that has cross genre appeal and incorporates such things as techno and the Bangface sound then play fair with the people who have come for them and give them the same value for their ticket as everyone else got - i.e. actually being able to hear some of the music you've come to hear at a reasonable volume!



Sorry if that sounds overly critical, as I keep saying Glade 2008 was def one of the best festivals I've ever been too, but end of the day that doesn't mean that there wasn't areas for improvement - otherwise why have feedback???? - and the comment from ouzodave quite pissed me off this morning!

So much for the psy crowd being open minded and lacking in bad attitude!

too much dubstep/minimal/khead music on Sunday, in fact too much dubstep full stop. I know it's the thing these days or whatever, but it's dull after a while. Sorry. Some of us like to 'ave it, even on a Sunday.

Sound was iffy on the Friday.

Apart from that, it was an amazing festival and I can't wait to do it better and sillier next year (I failed at the fancy dress). And I intend to not be so shy/rubbish and say hello to some of you.

Roll on 09.

Oh and the food was orgasmic. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I got back from global gathering yesturday and i feel i must report that the music was freaking loud constantly on all the stages.....

HOWEVER...

most of the music was seriously poor (any decent dj's were playing incredible cheesey sets much more main stream then if you saw them in a club)

There was literaally no atmosphere (except the of fear of northern chavs)

My point is that any statements so far in this thread (including my own) about how the music (volume) is the main thing at a dance music festival are probably wrong.

I think i would have had a better time at glade with no music than the 2 very painfull days i spent on a airbase.

I think when complaining about volume and other little that occured at glade i was forgetting about all of the good bits that you dont get at other festivals.

So far this month i have been to:

Glade
Lounge on the farm
Zoo8
Global Gathering

I will only be going back to Glade and lounge on the farm.

In summery please try to sort out the volume issues but please dont do it at the expense of the festival - partying on tarmac runway may allow for loud music but its fucking shite........

Ah but is that because of the type of crowds Global Gathering markets too and attracts, the way they set up the site and the shite line-ups they book.


Surely Glade would be able to make better use of a site like Long Marston than a mainstream 'superclub' cheese organisation like Godskitchen does.


A Glade style festival at such a location could arguably have the best of both worlds - the volumes allowed, the Glade crowd in attendance, the effort with decor Glade make would make the visual side of things much better than we're used to seeing at Long Marston (admitedly would never be as beautiful as Wasing but still, a lot can be done with decor), and the quality of music Glade provides - and the style of artists booked/reputation of the festival would ensure that all the chavs that are normally at Long Marston listening to hard house and other such mainstream bollocks would not be there as the type of artists booked at Glade appeal to a completely different sub-section of the dance crowd.

What an AMAZING weekend! I have only 2 complaints! Once again the sound in the Overkill was very hit and miss! One evening it would be amazing the next terrible. I left 5 minutes into bong-ra because i could hear people talking over the music! But when the system was pumpin it was great and i just dont understand why the system could not be constant? I understand that the later it gets the quieter the system has to become but i really dont understand the inconsistency of the levels from one night to the next? my only other complain is that special guest Chris Akabusi, once again, did not turn up! keep up the good work guys and hopefully we'll see Chris Akabusi at the Glade next year!!!

when you're at glade you dont think about all the little details like the illuminated trees and the light towers projecting light across the landscape.

These little things really make it a nicer place to be than somewhere that is just flat and empty.
