Rabbit Hole Sunday night drmming *merged*

Postby Smiffy1001 » 22 Jul 2008, 10:17

Did anyone go to the Rabbit hole Sunday night after InSpiral had finished? Must've been around 11pm, loads of people banging drums and basically anything they could find. Such a good sound!!!! It was packed in there!!

Such a good sound and what a way to finish- quite literally making the music!!!

ahhhh just want to be back!!! :)

yeah.... on our way from Inspiral we heard some music, some people were banging dustbins by a tree. then they picked everything up and moved on a bit, then they joined the people doing the same in the rabbit hole.they were calling themselves TECHNO MATTRESS!!! unfortunately after a while they got asked not to bang anymore.... boo. i hope this happens again next year cos the lack of music HURTS on the sunday although we'll be more prepared for it next time!
woo TECHNO MATTRESS

haha thats so funny, as we were working this announcement comes over the radio from security-

'Rabbit Hole, we have had reports and complaints that people are outside your venue banging the oil drums, please get them to stop'

we were pissing ourselves laughing at that, the guy sounded so serious as well.

We were proper 'aveing it with them oil drums when we were standing on the platformy bit by the mainstage. Thats when we got asked to stopand move inside the rabbit hole cos it could contain the sound a bit more. Well, it couldn't contain our sound thats for sure. Big up all my fellow drummers (and any horn crew) :wackyhat: :wackyhat:

TechnoMattress - aka the Sunday Drumming

Postby tmassif » 22 Jul 2008, 15:21

This is a post to find anybody who joined in with the epicness of Techomattress, or the to the unenlightened the bunch of ravers craving more music after 8pm on the Sunday. If you joined the tour which started in our campsite with just five people, an airbed, some empty bottles, a mess tin and a pair of bongos, then proceeding to travel around gathering followers and additional drummers and finally getting disbanded in the Rabbit Hole due to complaints of the noise travelling down the valley to the Wasing residents, :upyours: then please enlighten us!

Btw i was the guy with the 'Bad Aids' labcoat bashing away on an upturned bin with my bare hands (yeh they are quite bruised now  )

Yay, I was the one in the grey hoddie with a flameing face on it also bashing an upturned bin with his bare hands (yes they are pretty bruised as well) but I had managed to find some sticks by the time we reached the rabbit hole.

Big up's to all involved, definitly one of the highlights for me :)

haha yes guys, i just spotted this after making a topic

http://www.gladtalk.co.uk/forum/technomattress-aka-the-sunday-drumming-t5892.html

Yes i was one of the originators of Technomattress (i was the one with the 'Bad Aid's' Labcoat, Bangface Hoodie & Bleeding hands playing the oildrum) that was great fun. I have heard from several people watching that Scotch Egg joined in when we were by the Tree near the stalls. Thankyou to everyone who joined in, it was one of the biggest highlights of the weekend, and was certainly louder than any of the other music on sunday! :haha:

That was so cool big props to you guys for doing that. I only caught it later on after the music at id spiral stopped and when i walked in it really gave me goosebumps, made me think about the origins of music and put a massive smile on my face(for the thousounth time that weekend).

The guy telling everyone to stop was actually making me laugh as well as he was saying everything in this really monotone voice like he was doing a staff announcement at tescos or something. I dont know if you remember but he then said that this girl was going to play piano but the piano was utterly fucked and she had a lot of trouble getting anything out of it.

Hahaha yeah I was high as a kite on Sunday night and as we walked past the rabbit hole started bobbing to the drumming for awhile before I turned to my mate and told him "I want to bang stuff!!" Someone drumming heard me and gave me a stick so I started banging stuff pretty loud until I was asked ever so politely if I knew how to bang in rhythm after starring back with a confused and blank look he took my stick off me. Sorry if I annoyed anyone but I had a great few minutes!

hahah yeh it did all get rather sloppy when we had like 30/40 random ravers banging shit about in a mad frenzy. But i have to congratulate some of the people for their inititave in creating different sounds, such as two empty fruit cans as a makeshift cabassa, a guy with a sledgehammer smashing the side of the oil drum i was on :P and the best of all was the guy slamming two ladders either side of him! :haha:

hmm i think i remember you beatmonkey but i cant say for sure, the night is a bit blurry if you know what i mean.

I'm uploading an eight-minute video of the drumming to YouTube as I'm typing this. :)

The video quality will be poor, as it was very dark near Stepladder Man, where I was mostly standing, but you do get eight minutes of footage. :)

OK, here's a shorter clip. The best one is still frigging uploading.

This isn't a very good one, but at least it gives you something to watch in the meantime.

That guy on the megaphone cracked me up, he looked well random but was being all serious!!! At first I thought he was taking the piss. It was too funny...! saw the girl on the piano, could barely hear it - then when all the drumming died down, some random guy on a guitar singing covers. Did make us chuckle!

Was loving use of improvised instruments though- All about using a ladder for a drum, or banging two empty bottles together. Glade crew demanding more beats! :D

Yeah, i remember seeing that. That girl did well on the piano, it was totally fucked! Apparently loads of the keys were either missing or broken..

Was quite surreal listening to that guy sing late Sunday night after a weekend of dance music..

Sunday night was the first time i went in the Rabbit hole and it was a good way to finish the weekend... :)
