On saturday night during venetian snares I met JOhn Franschanti (actually my girlfriend spotted him, I thought it was someone else) and he did sound fucking up for smashing it on sunday.

I reckon they were as gutted as we all were, as James said they had spent 6 months getting it together.

Just gotta make sure we all get our tickets for the bang in london when they play it, Saint said that it could be as soon as 2 months.

Sounds like Venetian Snares pulling a hissy fit, to be honest. He played a blinder on the Friday night showing off a little bit of the acidy stuff but then lets the fans down on their victory lap. Ceephax played a fucking blinder and 808 State ripped that place to bits!

What I heard from crew was that Snares' 808 machine had gone tits-up and they'd been trying all over the place to get it fixed or borrow one - not too easy on a Sunday.

I was told that Ceephax had been asked if he would lend his but the problem is that he didn't want his patterns overwritten. The storage on them is very limited. I don't know how easy it would be to backup 808 patterns, these are very old machines after all.

I think it's unfair to assume Snares was having a strop. If that had been the case, I'm sure that would have been the talk backstage instead.

Fair enough. I think the state of my brain by the Sunday all meant it seemed a bit Boy Who Cried Wolf. Especially when Ceephax came out and made some joke about them not being bothered!

Snares did a good job on Friday, though.

OK here's what happened...

None of the analogue synths would sync properly
the kit was insane, we had it set up for a few days for them to rehearse and it just all went wrong.
we had drivers bringing every 101, 303, 606, 707, 808, 909 in from every hire company in London and it just wouldn't work with what they were trying to do. We even pulled loads of synths apart and re-soldered them through the night with an expert who's job it is to build synths! I'm not overly technical so I spoke to Ceephax and Vibert to get them to explain things, basically what they want to do is well hardcore when using 80s synths with current computer stuff.

A few tears, a few hugs, some cups of tea/coffee and we decided to move on and try again asap.
As we all know John came as a raver in 2008 and wants to have the SDM show in the BF environment.
He also said that he'd spent 6 months on this set and he sees each old synth as a separate instrument with a soul.
He was also totally gutted to miss most of the rave!
We just have to all wait for this one.................
