Stewarding At Glade

Postby Robofish » 26 Jan 2008, 20:40

I'm a bit of a cashstrapped student, but I'm determined to make my summer of '08 one to remember: I'm trying to save up as much as I can to totally ram pack my summer full of gigs and festivals.

I'm thinking that to help make my money to go a bit further, and to make the experience a bit more interesting, I'd give stewarding with Oxfam a try. But before I commit myself to anything, I wanted to know whether anyone here has any experience with stewarding Glade, or if they have any idea what it's like...

Do you think it'll seriously dampen the festival experience? And is it VERY demanding work you have to do?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give! :D

Oh also, I'd like to add that I'll be doing the festival alone, because I have on friends into the whole psytrance scene, so I was hoping that being with other stewards would hopefully be a good way to meet people there. If I didn't steward, would you advise going alone? And is it easy to kind of meet random new people?

You might want to read this thread first: haha-oxfam-stewards-t2771.html

"If you are interested in stewarding with Oxfam at the Glade festival, please consider seriously whether you are willing to interrupt your partying to be sober and straight to work. We vet our stewards for this festival much more carefully as we have found in the past that the Glade appeals to party people." :D

I think I can say from personal observation that the Oxfam stewards all seem to enjoy themselves at Glade.

Keep an eye on these links:

Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

If you have any useless mates who are still dithering about coming to Glade, show them this article: http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/glade-festival-2009.shtml

Cheers for the response Sperge, you're turning out to be quite the legend :D

If it comes down to having a good laugh sober at a festival, and staying at home getting wasted. I think I'll go with the former.. Though hopefully I'm sly enough to bend the rules a little bit ;)

Well last year all the stewards I spoke too were haveing a damn good time (well obviously, they had me to entertain them, hah!) and were getting into it just as much as the party people, they just seemed to spend their time getting water for people (cue lots of hugs, gratefulness and good vibes being sent their way) or chatting to people getting a nice gulp of fresh air before returning to the mayhem. Glade looks like one of the best festis to steward tbh.

And as to going on your own, don't be worried about doing that either, I went with a couple of random's who live near me and were offering lifts from this website. I have to say they were a pair of the nicest people I've ever met in my life.
