The official Glade feedback thread

Glade Festival is Britain's biggest and best non-corporate electronic dance music festival, with a proper havin' it vibe. It's 16-19 July 2009, get those dates in your diary.

The music levels were pretty uneven on the Origin stage and low on most stages friday night in Liquid... But apart from that the sound didnt seem chronic, mind you i didnt' spend that much time in Breaksday or Overkill....

But highlights..
Fearsome Engine
No rain or mud and lots of nice dry grass
Less people more space
Mood Deluxe
ID Spiral trying to extend it Sunday night
Laughing Buddha, Zen Mechanics and most of Origin saturday..
Co-campers and chilling out on monday not feeling rushed to leave...

Downpoints
Those horrible power cut outs on Origin and that motorbike sfx
Lack of water in main area
Security walking around in large groups with attitude
Price of booze

But it was the best Glade I've been to so far (2005 and 2007 before) and will definately be back in 09!!!!!.... Cheers to all involved..

Dealing with the lockup crew was bare drama. Perhaps next time we could get some people running the lockups who don't seem like they've only just arrived from Saturn. Because let's be honest, it was a fucking shambles! The amount of times they lost me and my mates stuff. I ended up just taking it all out on Saturday and keeping it in my tent as I felt it was safer there... God damn.

Also, organisers. It's important to note that the Origin stage was greatly adding to the general morose atmosphere over the whole of the Glade site, I think it would be a good idea to reduce the volume of that stage to the level of.. Oh I don't know... A ball of cotton wool blowing in the wind.

Also, grant the security rights to smack messy hippies round the back of the head. Let's face it, people hate security enough as it is, this little thing could improve their standing with the people.

But not as nice as 2006, they did an amazing job with them that year.

Well for me being my first glade festival i really enjoyed it! I thought it was really organised in everyway, and after going to festivals for the last ten years plus for me it was nice not to have the ringing ear symdrome at the end of the night, lots of room to camp in, and by far the best dance line-up i have every come across at a festival. I heard a girl get robbed on saturday morning but he didn't get that far before he was caught which but a smile on my face, i also liked the fact that it felt like we were left to get on with it, which you don't get very often anymore. My little crew didn't sleep from 06.00 on friday until 07.00 on sunday morning there was always something going on, which there should be! So a massive shout of respect to all that attended and enjoyed, a big thanks to the glade staff for making me feel really relaxed and welcome and for getting the vibe right, it felt like a festival should do! But for me Slam live kicked the arse out of everything!! Thanks.

all in all a really good festival, didn't enjoy it quite as mcuh as the first 3 years but only because I had work on friday evening and monday morning...

guess it can't hurt to say it one more time - sound levels especially in overkill were a bit of a joke except for a few sets. Especially let down Bassclef who put on an awesome set which was played at a stupidly low level. Weird though how Tayo's set was so loud, and Clarks was pretty loud as well. Would I be right in saying overkill and breaks were taking it in turns playing loud music. Seemed like the big headliners sets were loud, while whoever was in tthe other tent at the time was quiet.

Also another person pissed off at Joe Bananas, the first 2 years I remember spending quite a lot of time sitting outside littlebig (as were a lot of people), while still listening to the music. A combo of quiet sound and shitty joes meant if you were outside the tent you couldnt hear the music.

Best sets - Clark, Iration Steppas, Wisp
Biggest letdown - everyone at bangface till Remarc, although I guess this could have been somethign to do with the sound levels.. where was ceephax nd luke vibert, glade isnt glade without them

Well this was my first Glade this year, and overall i can easily say it was the best festival i've ever been too =]

Pro's:

The atmosphere! Everyone was just so friendly and up for it, you could just sit down and start chatting to anyone, loved it.
Granny's Gaff, fucking hilarious, especially the shennanigans we witnessed late on Sunday night :P
The toilets, i thought i was still tripping out on Saturday morning when i walked into a clean loo!
The Broccoli, dinosaurs, walking trees etc, all the visuals were wicked.
Saw some amazing sets, Stanton Warriors, Dub Fire and Utah Saints stood out.
The people banging away on drums after the music finished on Sunday, thankyou! We were so bummed when everything went off, but you made our evening; hands must have kaned though.
The number of people; we kept bumping into people we'd met before, which hardly ever happens at bigger festivals like Glasto.

Con's:

Getting my phone nicked ¬¬ managed to keep it all weekend, and then get it stolen on Monday morning, grrrr.
The music getting turned off so early on Sunday, it was a bit of an anti-climax.
Some of my mates, sad to say, they behaved like dicks.
The price of food, i know it's pretty much the same at every other festival, but damn!
A whole bottle of vodka leaking over all my clothes, i spent the weekend smelling like an alcoholic.
Losing my mind for most of Friday night x[
Having to return to reality, wish Glade had lasted longer.

But yeah, one of the best weekends ever, bring on next year :wackyhat:

Jeff Mills revved up his 909 right up at the end of his set to about 180bpm then finished up, after that and the lights went on the noise from the crowd was something special. From the back to the front of the tent there were deafening roars and cheers from the crowd, probably the loudest sound I'd heard all weekend - Jeff looked very happy.

And the ironic thing is that it was probably the crowd noise annoying the locals at some points. Next year we should get everyone to cheer as loud as they can for a few minutes, and watch the complaints flood in.

am i the only person that didn't think the toilets were nice? lol none of them seemed to be cleaned until sunday evening, the ones near us (by the welfare tent/general store) were awful as there was only two they were literally on the verge of overflowing, we had to walk to the ones by vapor (possibly? i dont know it was a tent i never went in..!) when we were at our camp.
but then i haven't caught any strange diseases so i suppose i shouldn't complain...

I agree with you. I thought I was the only one who hated the toilets, maybe because I was using the same set as you most of the time. The people I was with also commented on the disgusting state of them, they were always piled right up full of tissue with a great big cherry on the top!

I had an amazing Glade - will be there next year without a shadow of a doubt, it was just the security I was complaining about mostly because we had to go out and in to get booze and the relentless searches started to get on my wick. I had my shoes searched about 5 times in the one day. We ended up giving free bottles Buckfast away to anyone passing as we had so of it much left! I still have a case of cider here too.

Anyhoo sorry about the swearing and moaning yest.

The people of Glade are of a special kind.

Having been a veteran glade goer for many years at glastonbury this was my first proper glade.

Just a few points:

- The best thing about glade at glastonbury is its setting. Whilst the site was nice overall I was hoping for a few more outside stages. I know there are sound restrictions, but not till 12 surely? Tents are great after dark when you can crank the volume up - but really not before. Could we not put some of the stages in the trees as well? Like at glasto?

- Not all of us like psy trance 24/7 and I would loved to have heard Sunday's Glade Stage line up outside, a bit more techno outside and more house outside too. All those people moaning about ONE set of techno outside need to realise that other than that it was almost completely psy trance on the origin and that was the only place you could sit or dance outside. I quite like a little bit of psy trance, but by sunday I was so bored of it, and yet if you wanted to be in the sunshine you had no where else to turn. I was absolutely dying for a bit of a early/mid 90s trance to be played on sunday night.

- There isn't much point booking three of the finest techno djs to play on firday night if they can't play loud music. What is actually the point? If you dont have the license - push them back to a time when they can play loud and have more ambient stuff later. I very much doubt Surgeon or Ben Sims will be back. Which is a shame as they are two of the best techno djs out there.

Just three ways that glade could have been better imo. I had a great time and after the sun had gone down on saturday I heard some incredilble music: Lee Burridge, Jeff Mills, Mids 90s Goa Trance in Liquid, Autechre & Jimmy & Matt in Sancho y Panza. Plus I actually really liked Allaby's techno set on sunday outside!

The discussion of alternative locations has been moved to should-glade-move-from-wasing-t5889.html chaps. It's a good discussion, but let's keep this thread for feedback. Thanks. :)

WOW what can i say guys to any of the organisers thankyou thankyou thanyou. It was my first glade this year and i had the best time of my life. I've been to loads of different festivals in the UK and abroad and this was by far the best festival i have ever been to. First of all the people were brilliant, everyone was so friendly and made an effort to dress up in random shit which made for such a good vibe. The music for me was spot on all the time, i don't think at any point was i not enjoying the music, loved the psy mainly, and the techno and the break. SO many good sets, which totally blew me away (see favourite sets) but also there was sooo many other good ones too many too mention really. Along with the weather which made for a totally perfect weekend for me and my friends from Bristol. I have to say this will be without a doubt be my festival i goto every single year without fail.

Thanks again guys! :) :)
