The tent pole climber (was Unbelievable wanker)

Glade Festival is Britain's biggest and best non-corporate electronic dance music festival, with a proper havin' it vibe. Glade 2009 FAQ.

The tent pole climber (was Unbelievable wanker)

Postby Polarbare12 » 22 Jul 2008, 16:51

If anyone knows the moron who climbed up the tent pole at the end of Jeff Mills’ set can you please ensure that you socially ostracise them from now on. Honestly, who acts like that?! I only hope that security threw her straight out of the festival on her ass into a pile of mud. This stupid girl could have killed someone if she fell. She was already nicked by security while trying to do it during Dubfire. Why didn’t they kick her out then?????

This was my fourth Glade and although the music was sensational I really noticed far more idiots than in previous years. People having yelling matches with each other and playing shitty tinny radios in the wee hours of the morning and becoming wildly aggresive and rude when asked if they could keep the noise down. Not to mention the wankers walking around the dancefloors blowing horns all the time. If the song was meant to have a horn in it there would be a trumpet player on stage. There were loads of people there who seemed to have no interest in music but just wanted to get fucked up on drugs. I’m usually tolerant about this stuff but the Glade used to be known for attracting people with good social skills, now it’s more like the Reading Festival of dance music.

Can the Glade introduce a 25 and over policy or at least get some ‘take no shit’ security that boots people out on their asses if they act like dickheads?

Love and kisses,
Polarbare

P.S. Jeff Mills, wow. Wow.

As a more serious reply then the flippant wank I've been posting:

I think the more haveing it vibe is begging to take over from the psytrancey vibe. Personaly I think everyone is just as lovely but in a more haveing it shennanigans type of way, whats wrong with screaming profanities at each other?

Sorry mate, I don’t think the sort of behaviour I described is acceptable. Making noise all night is fine, but being rude and violent isn’t and I heard and saw numerous altercations. As for the monkey girl, do you really think it’s OK to endanger other people’s safety?

I saw no violence. Yes monkey girl was being a bit silly but please don't try and tell me you've never done anything daft in your life. If you were that worried why did you not get some people to help you clear the area around the pole where she woulod've fallen.

Sometimes you've just gotta spend a weekend haveing fun and fuck the consequences.

Don't really agree with any of that rant...

1) I'm only 20 and this was my third year and probably about 30 percent of the people are under 25 so first of all thats a f*cking ridiculous comment.
2) Any festival where alcohol and drugs are around, you're going to get noise, it's human culture...

... however, fair enough about the rudeness, and that girl was bang out of order, but there are always some idiotic people around.

DON.....K!

but really? grow up. horns are a laugh, it gets the vibe going and blowing a horn is a sign of appreciation towards performers, is cheering when jeff mills or a dubstep dj drops a good tune unacceptable?

people do silly things all the time, as graeme said, dont spend time moaning about it, instead make sure the dancefloor is cleared and that security is alerted instead of bitching online

i didnt see or hear anyone being abusive, i had a good weekend surrounded by people who i enjoyed their company as much as they enjoyed mine.

quiet camping is at the back, but it is full of fun people who have kids, or just want a good nights sleep, not boring, health and safety do-gooders.

You have a legitimate point of view about the anti-social behaviour, mate. I do get what you mean about it becoming "the Reading Festival of dance music". A couple of friends of mine stopped going this year because of what they called the "hooray ravers", even though I think that the experiences they had were very rare at Glade and it's a shame they've been put off it.

But I really don't think an "over-25s only" policy is a good idea somehow. It does make you sound like you've been reading too much Daily Mail when you tar an entire age group with the same brush.
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

bit harsh comparing Glade to REadnig, however I can see your point on the idiot front, there were one or two twats.

however dicriminating to under 25's, tut tut. Im 22, and will be 23 next Glade, are you saying I shouldnt be allowed in? as well as the mojority other 98% under 25 who love it?

I was 19 when I first went to Glade as are most people are around that age when they first go I suspect (19/20/21/22) and they have a great time.

A few points...

Over 25's only! Are you having a laugh? Everyone over 18 has a right to go to Glade. If it was over 25's only it deffinately wouldn't have the same vibe(I am over 25 by the way) What a fucking stupid comment.

Horns are fun! If you don't like it then p!ss off. I don't understand what harm it does? If its annoying you at a set then move somewhere else (they're not that loud) If it annoys you while camping then camp in the quiet camp and then u would have a valid excuse for complaining.

The lady with the flag was protesting for the free tibet campaign. http://www.freetibet.org It was a little irresponsible but she seemed pretty sober and didn't cause anyone any harm. Good luck to her I say. I found out what the flag was and am now more aware of her cause.

I met a ton of likeminded individuals at Glade and had the time of my life. Polarbare I think it's time you realised that you are an intolerant old git and maybe should go to "The Big Chill" or "Lattitude" and not a full on having it electronic dance music festival if you want less people that are slightly wasted.

I even imagine that the response you got at the weekend when asking people to stop bowing their horns or turn their radio might have been justified. I was kept up at Glasto on the first night this year to someone playing bassline garage. I gave them a friend of mines CD the next day and they played that the next night which was much more enjoyable. Just chill the fuck out or go somewhere else. Glade needs less of your attitude!

Yeah I saw a few of those. There are better places to "get fucked up" than Glade (i.e. more comfortable places with fewer people etc.) but there's no better place to have a fucking great 3-day rave.

You see, this is one thing I really don't get. Why bother to pay £140 to "get fucked up" in a tent, when they could just as easily do that in some campsite for about a tenner?
