Venue for Glade 2009 revealed

Glade Festival is Britain's biggest and best non-corporate electronic dance music festival, with a proper havin' it vibe. Now based at a stately home in Norfolk.

Venue for Glade 2009 revealed

Postby PaulX » 27 Jan 2009, 12:14

Glade organiser Nick Ladd has given us the green light to reveal that the new venue is at Matterley Bowl, Winchester. He did in fact privately confirm it to Ravetalk last Friday when someone posted it on here and other forums - but we were asked to keep schtumm for the time being as it was still "sensitive".

The deal is now done, however, so we're now free to confirm that it definitely is Winchester.

As you can see, the venue is very... ummm.... bowl-shaped:

I asked Nick what the drainage was like, bearing in mind memories of the 2007 deluge. :fear: Well, of course, that particular downpour was a one-in-60-years event and Nick assures us that the site has very good drainage anyway. But you're going to like this news even more - "the bowl nature means loud after midnight!"

Some other things I've had answers about

There will be limits on personal alcohol brought into the site, as at the old one. The limits will be the same as usual, i.e. what they regard as "sensible personal use".

They are developing a "village" concept for the stages - there will be a number of "festivals within festivals".

Stall application info will be posted on the website soon - in the meantime, pm me for the email address to write to.
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

I'll believe it when I hear it....

Homelands didn't get any complaints, I'm sure Marousa will :D

I assume camping outside the bowl otherwise that looks VERY small.

They've just put out an official press release:

Winner of Best Dance Festival at UK Festival Awards 2008

'Louder. Later and Longer' is what Glade 2009 (Thurs July 16th - Sun 19th)
promises, having now found and secured the new site they were looking for!
After looking at several choices they have finally settled on a real beauty
in central south England that combines a beautiful bit of the old green and
pleasant, with the desire to be able to crank the music louder after
midnight - the latter being the bugbear at their previous home!

In keeping with Glade tradition, they were going to hold the exact location
back for now, but after news leaked out on the internet, the organisers have
decided to reveal the site details. All they'll say for now is that its new
home is near Winchester.

The exact location and directions will be revealed to all tickets holders
nearer the time (just as it was for the first ever standalone Glade
festival). The location is well served by public transport and is about a
half an hour's drive from the old site and is quite possibly the best
festival site in the UK!

"We are really happy with our new home, it's really tailor-made for us -
beautiful countryside, an event friendly council and no neighbours, so we
can enjoy dance music as mother nature intended - outdoors and loud!' Nick
Ladd Glade Director.

Now officially the leading dance music festival in the UK (it won Best Dance
Music Festival at the 2008 UK Festival <http://www.festivalawards.com/>
Awards) the Glade is much more than just another rave. It is a proper
British Festival with a kaleidoscopic diversity that befits its mother ship
and first home, Glastonbury.

Details of this year's line-up will be announced within the next few weeks,
so watch this space!

In a move to help the recession blues, tickets are on sale now for a very
reasonable £125 (which is the same as last year!).

The Glade is also running a student initiative until the end of January.
Tickets cost £99 + bf but you have to be able to prove you're a student at
the gate or you'll have to pay the full price difference.

The usual ticket price is still only £125 and you can stagger payment until
the end of March by paying a £50 deposit now. Tickets are available from
<https://www.gtickets.co.uk/glade-festival-2009/>
gtickets.co.uk/glade-festival-2009

Free on-site camping is included in the price. Camper & caravan tickets cost
an additional £45.

The Glade is a 10,000 capacity event, visited by dance music and free
spirited aficionados from around the world. The Glade is known as one of
Europe's best underground electronic festivals and will celebrate its 6th
birthday in 2009 after starting life as part of Glastonbury festival (of
which it is still a part of).

That'll be brillant though, standing at the edge of the bowl and looking down at the whole festival

Wow, I had no idea that Mother Nature invented the waterproof amplifier!

Every year at Glade I've camped in a spot where I can do precisely that. Mintos.

Really glad it's only a 10,000 capacity, that's cheered me up :)

Sweet :) Although 'within the next few weeks' in glade language will probably mean sometime in march/april...

She did. It's a natural amphitheatre. Well, maybe not the "waterproof" bit - but hopefully we're going to get 2005/6-style weather!
