Is Flex (Club) in London still runnin'? As I'm from Antwerp (Belgium), I don't hit clubs in The UK.
Saw they had some nice line-ups during the past...

Belfast:

Diston have now stppoed doing nites but they will be replaced by less frequent Acroplane events (based around the net-label) the first of whichwill feature Ebola and Herv amongst others. Jasey Diston will be continuing to do nights under a new guise, the fist of which wil be Mala

There is a nite called GRUB that pops up now and again too, its done by Boxcutter and Nez, very good.

Shine/Stiff Kitten do good nites for the housier/techno end of things, the crowd can be a bit susspect though, the last one was Surgeon and Robert Hood, next one is Bens Sims, Steve Rachmad, Benga, Skream, Boxcutter and the Twitch guys. Laurent Garnier will do the one ofter that

Fuckloads. There's no shortage of great nights in Manchester.

SpinCycle (tearout, with occasional smatterings of dubstep) everything about this
Carry On - was Tangled Breaks (mainstream breaks, plodstep, tech funk) the crowd
Sequence (techno, glitch, dubstep, etc.) their balls
Missing/Sinergy (hard house/hard techno/hard on) the professional dancers
Metropolis (DnB) the lineups and the crowd ain't too scally

There's also loads of random monthly nights that you won't fail to enjoy as long as you stay away from Sankeys or The Warehouse Projects as a general rule, the crowd they attract tends to leave the premises at 2am which can be a godsend after being rammed in like sheep for the last 3 hours but IMHO it shouldn't be like that to begin with. Their guests (especially TWHP) are often the most high-profile available at the time and the punters reflect that.

I have to say there's very little, if any breakcore or other similar maximum rinsing that I've found. There's the occasional one-off that Sequence do, e.g. Venetian Snares this year, but Manc doesn't really have much of a focus on it. When I start DJing I might organise something but I could almost guarantee that it would be dead.

The Centrifuge guys are putting on some cracking nights at Moog bar (check out the acid BBQ this Sunday), and then there's Lobotomy at Blueprint for the hard stuff (and Rigor Mortis for the really, really hard stuff but I haven't made it to one of their events yet).

Detonate is ok, bit too chavy, any place they wave a metal detecting wand over you to get in is a little
Spectrum is a wicked night at stealth, they have had some awesome line ups.
Blueprint is wicked, they have good nights on every week, always forget to go though. My fave night there is Demo, always has a wide variety of music and stuff, plus money goes to charities which is nice.
Moog is pretty cool, previously my local and hopeful soon to be again, my mates have a night there once every so often.
Plus loads more cool stuff I can't be arsed to write about.

BF

And random nights with decent lineups.

I like Fabric, if its a good lineup and the crowds decent, its a good night.

I also like popping t the end for liquid DnB on Wednesday!

shakyjane wrote:oh, well in Edinburgh it would be the Bass Syndicate nights. I'm not sure if they're doing them anymore now, but possibly one of the best nights I've ever been to was a night in the Liquid Rooms with Plump DJ's. Went with Chopper. The warm up DJ's were sick. The volume was so LOUD you could feel the bass vibrate through your whole body. And the Plumps played the best set I've heard them play ever. Plus the liquid rooms are very nice. Feeling the bass through the balcony area was awesome. And if i'm remembering the night well they had a nice little beer garden to go and smoke in. They don't really do nights regularly though :(

They've also had Tayo & Aquaksy on that I can remember in a different club called the Bongo club which is pretty cool.

I should highlight though that this is one night out of 4 breaks options in Scotland.

Ive Heard AUDACIOUS @ the bongo club in edinburgh is the nutts! Playin DnB, Jungle, Breakcore & Hostile beats & have had the likes of Beatwife, Pisstank, Murderbot, The Doubtful Guest, Charly Lynch & Babyshaker!

London has LOADS of interesting nights! I love Bangface to bits, but if you think it's the only option then you've not been looking hard enough...

Bangface (obviously!)

Braindrop

FWD>>

Bukkake (2nd Wednesday of the month at Madame Jojos)

Random Rephlex Records/Planet Mu nights at places like Corsica Studios and Hearn St Car Park. - there seems to be one for each label about every quarter and they're always killer lineups.

Yardcore - Haven't seen one advertised recently... has it died?

Make sure you pick up the fliers next time you're in Electrowerkz (not the ones given outside the door!). There's always loads of interesting stuff around! London's brill!
