What's gone wrong with Antiworld?

Postby evil999 » 08 Jul 2007, 00:16

My mates have come home early and disgruntled. All i got out of them was 'the absolute biggest pile of shit ever'.

Searchin on the net seems like a lot of the acts were cancelled. Anyone shed any light on the subject?

Wow! :o

This is news to me, first I've heard about it. Hardly a good way to launch a new event!
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

If you have any useless mates who are still dithering about coming to Glade, show them this article: http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/glade-festival-2009.shtml

There was an advert on their site as late as Thursday morning saying:.....
"See http://www.777festival.com for more info and last minute ticket sales, or simply turn up at the gate with cash and avoid paying any booking fee."

That wouldn't have given me much confidence if I was going.

Yeah, it is really nasty isn't it. The music and voice over make it sound like some uber shite commercial Radio 1 style festival, which from what i have heard about Anti world is probably not that far from what it is...

It was a complete f**king disaster. Only about 3000 tikets sold. There was no info about anything, even the promoters of some of the smaller stages didn't have a clue what was going on. Apparently all the Hommega artists played for free! Other stages had to cancel over 20 acts. Green Velvet and Adam Beyer made it as far as their hotels only to be told that there was no money to pay them. Worst of all was that posters were put up each day with the complete lineup on even though the organisers knew thay had no money to pay any of the djs. The sound was totally shocking after 12. Not just quiet but going up and down like a yoyo. The decor for the main Trance stage was also rubbish. The only plus points were the weather and the state of the toilets. Thank god I still got glade tickets! Bring it on......

Christ on a bike, that's a major scandal.

One to contact the press on, in all honesty. If they'd only sold 3,000 tix, they should have cancelled or at least explained the circumstances and given people the choice of still going or taking a refund. No excuses.

an empty festival and loud music sounds like fun but an empty festival and `oscilating` music sounds like no fun at all..

It was pretty fun actually, the outdoor, hard trance, and progressive stages had decent sound all the way through, and it's great to have enough space to dance around like a maniac. But yeah the wole thing was a bit of a shambles, the breaks/techno tent basically didn't happen, and the music shutting down at noon today... not nice. Certainly is a far cry from Glade, the one great thing was the 24h licence basically, the prog trance stage was really really good in the early hours of the morning.

yeah we all had fun - 24 hour music made it a very enjoyable weekend :) Shpongle was superb, Josh Wink was terrible and apart from that I have no idea who i saw all weekend as it was a bit disorganised. The whole thing was shut down today at lunchtime but hey ho cant win em all - at least it wasn't shut down friday!

Weather was a miracle, psytrance stage was really superb - reminded me very much of the first glade festival. Shame it went tits up - hope they put it on again next year but I am not too sure thats going to happen.

Tis a big shame it didn't go so well, probably out of their league for the line up they anticipated... but hats off to them for trying to put on a line up that has not been matched in the danceworld since the early days of the tribal gathering.

Hopefully they will survive and keep the beats banging for another day!

The glade will prove once again to be the place that has me jumping all weekend!

It makes people's gripes about the Glade seem very petty by comparison, doesn't it?

It's also interesting that only about 3,000 tickets were sold, apparently, as a lot of people thought the reason Glade took so long to sell out was that it was losing custom to 070707.

Well, clearly not! I'm wondering if this is a sign that the festivals market is saturated now - or if it's just a reflection of the exceptionally crap weather we've had this summer.

hmmm, antiworld... went with no emotions, 'cos it was the first one. lack of organisation & 5000 ticket sales (on the day i was told by a few people it was more like 7000, but still..). got down on thursday just to get my pitch & put my feet up, as it was raining. i can honestly say, everyone camping were the most sorted folk out there, indeed everyone i met out dancing too. there was less chavs than glade, well i saw none - VERY surprised at that, considering the day ticket sales. i *may* have seen a pair of 'hoodies' moving through the camping area, hard to tell unless you see them actually doing something. heard there was a few thefts from tents but people who leave anything worth nicking for them deserve that. what did make me think was that tags had appeared in the loos & even on one of the main tents early on.
what can i say, everything i needed for the festival was there, & being antiworld, much of the stalls & layout were somewhat heath robinson... never mind, up at 0430 then on it 'til late evening. honestly, i had a fantastic time.
dissapointed to hear that fridays techno never happened but hey, can't be in two places at once!
so the weekend for me was psytrance & progressive psytrance with small trips into the samsara & firefly tents. josh wink could only offer half hour for the money but thomas shumacher was blinding, got to see hallucinogen / shpongle.
i know it's selfish but less people was better & more friendlier, something that changes when you go for bigger capacity.

antiworld aimed way too high with this one, should've planned it as a small event. confusing to start with but made sense as the event went on. no queuing for showers, good food, 24 hour sounds, hot weather.... it's a shame that on sunday it was stopped for whatever reason (i left before that 'cos i ran out of clean clothes (i won't get on public transport without) but yeah, overall, was good!

already made comparisons with 777 & glade, each have there good & bad points. personally i would like:

music 1000 til 0000, giving some time to sleep - pouding bass ALL night into midday & beyond means you won't be getting any sleep the whole weekend

regular frequent COACHES to the rail station (like @ 777) - a godsend, comfort aircon & bags in the hold

er, mobile laundrette?! so i can wash clothes & stay onsite longer?

i'm sure theres other things i'll pick up on when my brain works. glade soon!!!
who sir me sir no sir what sir

Hi,

I wasn't supposed to go... but a friend asked me to drop her there on friday, managed to get a ticket at £50 from friend of a friend having stall (and he has LOTS of them to sale/give away). And by the time I reached the entrance I get offered wristbands at least 5 times. So I suspect there was 3000 wristbands around but clearly no all on the dance floor. Friday night the only crowded stage was the psytence one, with a lineup with nothing in common with the one published on the web site (lots of main acts cancelled without notice). The sounds in the tent after 11pm was ridiculous. I was talking with firends (at a normal level) at about 2m of the speakers.... gave up, gone home (at to be there early moring anyway).

Went back saturday afternoon, got the tickets so why not give it another go. Once again line-up *not exactly* (lol) the one on web site. A bit more people, maybe they finally reach 3000 but I seriously doubt it. Outdoor psytrance stage quite busy, the rest (except maybe one other tent) were nearly empty (between 10 and 50 people, hardly crowded!). The public was also VERY young (18 age restriction ????).

Left saturday around midnight (had another trance party planned), didn't went back on sunday (hopefully -> noon stop). I should get more details on that later.

I suspect that antiworld reputation (especially about not paying artist) won't get any better after this.... but anyway, it was a good try, maybe a bit too ambitious for a first-timer (I suspect they wanted to be as good, as big as Glade). I was quite shocked about the number of ticket sales as it has been nearly impossible to leave any clubs, party or anything without getting a flyer for the last 3/4 months.

Another problem was the proximity of the tents/stage, during the day there was clearly sound cross over from one to another (maily psy-trance and main tent, about about 10m between them....)

If they put it up again next year, I'll probably go back, but clearly not at £100....

See you at Glade (on the psy-trance stage, on the right, in front of DJ ;-) )

I'm not gloating... but quite frankly, this is no surprise given Antiworld's past history.
