What should I expect going to Womad

Postby Christ-on-Crack » 18 Apr 2008, 16:21

I've signed up to work at this festi but i must confess I know virtually nothing about it, I don't know anyone who's been either so I'm just after a bit of info about it really. Anyone been before?

I know it's world music so I can expect a lot of cool bongo's and crazy dancers but is it a chilled out family do or the absolute carnage of a glade? Apologies if there's a thread already about it I tried the search thingy but it betrayed me.

Womads about a mile away from my house :-)

Most of my mates went last year cos of cheap locals tickets (which sold out mega fast this year :-( )and said it was fucking wicked. Just keep an open mind musicaly and you'll find plently to get your groove on to, and yes lots of bongos chanting and mongolian nose flutes from the sounds of things. But also bits of DnB and other more mainstream genres, just keep your ears open.

As for the crowd its got a lot of the middle aged middle class festival goers yes but theres also plenty of people their for a mash up. It might be harder to find the mash heads up for wrongness but they do exsit. TBH I wish I'd got one of the cheap locals tixs this year.

Mate I can recomend stewarding at the festival as it's a FANTASTIC way of doing a festi, you get such a different perspective of the event. Plus no matter what it says on the internet site they are always looking for more stewards as quite frankly you can never have too much help. Cheers for the heads up I'm quite looking forward to it now, I hope to get some crazy ass chinese clinky clonky music going on, complete with some bad ass dragons going through the crowd. Wouldn't mind seeing a bit of naked African tribal ladies jiggling their booty about. I can boogle boogle with the best of 'em.

'Kin 'ell. Were you one of those kids who had a stash of National Geographic magazines under the bed, alongside your mum's lingerie catalogue?
Top one. Nice one. Get sorted.

If you have any useless mates who are still dithering about coming to Glade, show them this article: http://www.ravetalk.co.uk/glade-festival-2009.shtml
