Who got robbed?

Glade Festival is Britain's biggest and best non-corporate electronic dance music festival, with a proper havin' it vibe. Glade 2009 FAQ.

I was at Bangface from Vibes & Livelee onwards to about halfway through Bong-Ra, then I left to go back to my tent, roll up and pick up some more Ouzo. Accidentally fell asleep, silly bastard. Ten minutes later some bloke opens my tent and shines a torch at me, I wake up and say something or other, he says something and fucks off. Took a minute for me to realise he was probably going to rob me. Cuntfaced bastard. It was a stroke of luck I came back at that exact time really.

Then went back to Overkill and raved it up some more.

(Edit: excuse the change of tense at the third sentence, then back again from the fourth onward.)

Its cos you know what you're doin mate. I'm pretty sure people went into our tent on the night everyone else in our camp got robbed but because of the state of it and the amount of random crap lying around they didn't find some of the valubles we had in their. Make sure your tents are a shitheap at all time people :-)

Harsh guys. There seems to have been more crime that before, but maybe then we have just not had a thread about it before

I hope it didn't put too much of a downer on anyone's weekend that was robbed.
I have only ever been wrong once and that was this one time when I thought I was wrong, and then it turned out that I wasn't.

Dunno about that, Sly. It's hard to gauge on the basis of message board posts. I'll try to get some official stats on it.

Everyone in my group (8 people) got robbed this year. Mostly they took stupid shit like chairs and booze and a gas stove. Most of the tents around us were robbed as well, with at least 5 people we spoke to losing wallets and phones. (We were camped on the hill directly up from Breaksday back from the road).

Some people in the tent next to us caught one of the robbers and tackled him and held him down, They then went to get the security people in the watchtower but had to wake them up because they were sleeping on the job!!!!!!!

The guys in the fire/watch towers were Oxfam stewards (high vis orange tabards and the supervisors like i was had top orange bottom yellow tabards with radios and an ear piece)

Security wore all black with yellow tabards with there SIA license card on the front

Nothing stolen this year, but our tent was open (front door and inside door) when I woke up on saturday morning.. they must've noticed me and my mate sparko'd out and had second thoughts.. the lad camped next to us had someone unzip his tent on him too but the guy just said he wasnt doing anything and walked off :fear:

I used the lockup for my extra money and car keys this year with no problems though so I suggest people use it more.

Nothing stolen from us we don't think - but they didn't have the massive metal fences they had in previous years presumably due to cost cutting - maybe word got out?

Yeah, this is my "tactic" too, even though I didn't realise I was doing it as an anti-theft tactic.

But some people do need to take a bit more personal responsibility for their stuff anyway, i.e. don't take what you can't afford to bring - and if you really must bring ipods and expensive cameras etc, use the free property lock-up instead of leaving them in your tent FFS.

If the weather's good I put valuables under the groundsheet or in-between the inner and outer part of my tent when I'm not there. when I'm sleeping I keep my wallet at the bottom of my sleeping bag!

We heard a lass having bother from our tent she was shouting "security" and stuff so we got ready (5 of us)to help but the rat was already offski, apparently he battered her and her boyfriend and robbed them. I'd have loved to have kicked 7 shades of biscuit out of him. Scumball. :x

I found a phone on Thursday night and spent about half an hour trying to get through to someone. Eventually got hold of someone's friend and gave it them back. :)

Can't believe so many people got robbed though, I felt pretty safe all weekend...although didn't leave valuables in my tent. Even so, being robbed in the middle of the night is not on. :x

Then again, the conditions last year would have been rather off-putting to your average thieving pikey. ;)

I do have to question the common sense of people who leave valuables like cameras and ipods in tents though. I carry my most valuable stuff with me at all times (wear combats - lots of useful pockets) or leave them in the property lock-up or car park. Better still, if you can't afford to lose it, don't bring it.
