I've never been robbed at a festival and wasn't this year.
Just thought I'd add a non gloom-laden story.

Agree with sperge - phone, wallet, keys should be in pockets at all times - anything else you should expect to lose and if not then be happy you still have it at the end of the weekend!

Whats the point in taking an ipod to a MUSIC festival anyway :?

I cant believe anyone would rob anyone at Glade.

We were all fine where we were and the people around us aswell. Think it was probably because there was always someone hanging out in our gazebo. Have to say was suprised that no one took our mighty comfy blow up chairs though.
Was good times all round with us. Hopefully havent jinxed myself tho!

These violent robberies mentioned in the thread are much more of a concern. :?

I don't recall hearing about such incidents in previous years.

Crikey, I don't like the sound of these violent robberies at all. That's some scary shit right there.

The first (and only) time I've had my tent broken in to was last year at Glade. Fortunately all the cunt got away with was a couple of beers and a bottle of liquid that looked like cider but was in fact my own piss. I hope the fucker downed it in one.

I think you might be confused, the robberies and assaults are when people are in their tent's. People don't bring valuables, they bring a bank card and some cash to buy food etc., and they are on their own person at all times.

Very pleased to see the superb community spirit at glade resultant in attempts to catch these pikies. Hopefully next year we can be even more organized and give these bastards a right battering.

I think you might be the one confused here, as I wasn't referring to the violent robberies in that post, I was referring to thefts of items such as ipods and cameras from empty tents. It's extremely naive to leave such items unattended in tents. See this post for what I had to say about the robberies and assaults.

As for "giving these bastards a right battering", it's a great sentiment, but criminals have rights too and they know all about them. It's wiser to try and restrain them and call for security - if you step beyond that and give them a good kicking, however much it's deserved, you'll be in more trouble with the law than they will unfortunately. :(

I wasn't aware of anyone having anything stolen where we were all camped. Was quite close to the site entrance tho so was quieter down there anyway.

Can't believe this time last week i was putting up my tent and getting ready for it all to begin. Where does the time go??!!

OK It wasn't clear in your post, so I wasn't sure.

i abhor violence and it saddens me that the criminals are now having to resort to violence as more and more people are taking precautions to protect their valuables.

Reading this is a bit scary. I didn't get anything nicked but did come back to my tent 2 or 3 times to find it open when I was sure I'd zipped it. I was in the first field (up from the general stores).

Luckily I keep my tent in an abolute shitheap like state with rubbish everywhere and all my valuables were on me, so nothing taken.

The girl who was punched wasn't far from our campsite - absolutely disgusting, I hope the cowardly little shitstain who did it got seven bells kicked out of him.

From what I've heard the thieving gits seemed to stick to the main camping area opposite Breaksday and Glade stage etc. I was in the field up from the General Store and opposite come and play and I didn't hear of many tent thievings there!

we camped right next to the fire tower, I think its the way forward, having a 24hour the day watch over our tents, we didnt have any trouble at all. its such a shame to hear that so many people were robbed. :(

Yep me and my bruv's wheel barrow got half inched! In previouse years (Allways seems to be on a Friday night/ Saturday morning) we've had some bloke come in to our tent (porch) saying "John? are you there John?" Obviously finding out if anyone is in the tent before he has a poke around, and this was up by ID Spiral.

 We should setup random "trap" tents with angry bees or grizzly bears in them! :clever:
Well you guys know what it's like... You just keep doing what it looks like your supose to be doing no matter how crazy it seems.

I noticed the police had put up signs all over Glastonbury saying they had set up tents as bait (like the cars they use to trap car thieves). Would be a good idea to have them at Glade. :)

Luckily I haven't lost anything from the Glades I've been to so far. I find it helps to stick your valuables into the bottom of your sleeping bag whilst you sleep. If the thieves manage to get them from there then I guess they deserve to keep them for their A* effort :D

It's so annoying... I can't get over how it happened.. trying to work it out in my head.
it happened near welfare and oppposite rabbit hole which was where I was camped. I know who did it , but i keep trying to calculate what happened after i'd figured out the money had been taken.. it's fucking annoying...! since i caught them trying to give it back and caught them looking into the 'vent' at the back of my tent but I didn't have the guts to be confrontational .. grr..

I left a lot of my stuff in the bottom of my sleeping bag on Thurs, but then decided against it on Friday and carried everything with me all weekend. I got used to the extra bulk and ended up wearing the same clothes all weekend so it became a nice memorable routine. I made the conscious effort of only taking my wallet, phone, baccy and rizlas in a plastic bag, and my hat, everywhere I went. My keys were in my bag in my tent but so well hidden that I nearly forgot where they were. :D

I don't think anyone near us got robbed, but I think someone might've gone looking as my tent was strangely unzipped a couple of times. Could easily have been "one of my lot" though. We had a camp of about 15 tents so there was usually someone around (but not always) until morning when the early-to-bedders got up.

My friend lost her camera before the GT meet on Thurs and it was handed straight to security, nice one whoever that was.

savagery. i slept curled up around my camera, anyone could try nicking it from me, and they would fail. i did worry becuase i couldnt carry all my cameras equiptment at all times - e.g. i had a masive camera bag with spare batterys/cleaning wipes/filters that i couldnt carry about, so i emptied the bag and put all the spares in unconspicuous places e.g. pockets, inside socks etc

had no problems, tent was unzipped once when i came back but as baldmosher said it could easily have been one of the many people coming in and out of my tent thouhout the weekend :)
