it was a good rave in a field, it was just a shit festival... had a great time due to good friends and strong substances, but overall thought it was probably the worst festival i've ever been to.

Really??!! I had an amaaaazing time, thought it was an absolutely wonderful festival. Great vibe, so many lovely people, beautiful setting, great decor and lighting in the tents and on the main stage (loving the lasers on the main stage and the tribe of frog decor especially), fantastic music on the whole WITH NO SOUND PROBLEMS (yup, that's right it was louder that glade was even at its loudest moments throughout the festival). Weather was a bit shit, and there weren't many toilets or running water taps, but those were the only real problems. Other than that full marks go to waveform and i shall definately be back next year :)

Highlights were:
System 7 (completely blew me away, the best set i've seen by them and a perfect ending to the festie)
Eat Static (on top form as usual, despite the power cut half way through their set!!)
Far too loud (both their live set and their dj set were rocking!!)

this one was a real eye opener, went last year but this was a lot different.

good points :
sound much better than many festivals i've done and a nice variation in music on all 4 stages, had a great time
really nice people in the camping area,i ended up camped away from my friends but everyone who passed seemed to say hello or have a smile, really nice

bad points:
there were only three sets of toilets which i could find,1 in the camping area,1 in the market and unbelievably only 1 set of 5 cubicles in the main arena where they were greatly needed.
Most people were not in the clearest mindset (if you get my drift) and to have to trudge across the field to reach the loos to find only 3 of them had doors (actually a bit of muddy card which you stood behind asthere were no seats).definately the worst i have encountered.

the car park was a mudfest even at the start.
i turned up at about 1.30 and it was already chaos,i managed to get a dry part but a lot of people had to be towed
IN to the site.I take in nobody realised after such a wet summer that it would rain (shock horror).

I left on sun eve and there was no information about what was going on,no one seemed to give a damn about how to get off site

all in all i had a good time but these things
have to be sorted for next year

rant over

Really?? :o What made it so bad?

Sounds like I made the right choice to go to BF then... which was of course awesome!

Right...i think im ready to post about it now!

I dont know why so many people are being negative though, it was certainly a different experience but i loved it all pretty much!

The toilets - yes, they were pretty disgusting. No doors/lights on some and no handwash until saturday/sunday meant it wasnt that pleasant.

Water - wow, surely that was illegal - the taps stopped working i think saturday night until around sunday night sometime? We ended up either buying chai or going to the first aid tent who luckily had some.

The general organisation was a bit of a free for all..i kind of liked it really - getting the bus from the station and then just going up to a man in a field with some wristbands..then being told to walk roughly "in that direction" to the site to find it..no security/people checking bands..just in you go through a gap in the fence! mental!

The music was absolutely spot on - i'm fairly certain it was a lot louder than glade AND all night, especially outside was awsome. The massive laser projecting things onto the hillside was wicked, as were all the people "breaking out" and rolling down that hill..that gave me some proper good laughs!

The microlites and paragliders flying around the site were cool too, as were some of the views towards the main stage and beyond. I didnt like the big empty space in the middle too much as there was hardly anyone there and it was fairly dark at night..although a good place to chill and enjoy yourself ;):)

We met a lot of crazy characters, and hello to you all. Has anyone got a picture of the guy who was asleep/k-holed on the monday morning, when his friends decided to wrap him up in clingfilm, balloons, a radio, draw on his face, put a tent pole up near him as a beacon and all sorts? We were camped right next to you..and that was proper funny. I hope you looked after him when he woke up though!

Thanks to the guy going around with a boombox on monday morning playing some much needed chunky music to finish it all off.

Other memorable moments:

-walking into ToF tent to see EVERYONE picking up bits of hay and miticulously shuffling it around in their hands over the floor like laying seeds...VERY funny/confusing in the state of mind i was in! I had to leave as i was laughing at the oddness of it all..no one dancing..just shuffling around laying hay to psytrance :wackyhat:

-Lots of people rolling down the hill/feeding the horses!

-Having people use our parasol and bubblechair combo as a landmark to find their tents :D (despite us finding it impossible on the friday night to find it ourselves and getting horrifically lost in the dark :panic: )

-Balloon boy/girl on sunday night on the main stage, the guy looked just like one of my mates but in a fullon silver shiney space suit floppy hat thing, and the girl in some pink hair with spangly pipe cleaner type things sticking out the top..wicked!

-The full(ish?) moon on saturday night

-The HILLARIOUSLY GAY dancers to whoever was on before eat static...im sorry but i couldnt stop laughing it was so embarassing. Skin tight lycra with strategically placed holes, bicycle led lights on the hands and moves that wouldnt look out of place in a YMCA video...genius.

I'm sure there's more but i cant remember right now :D

Hahaha, i remember those two. i was dancing next to them for most of that night and bought numerous balloons off them too. was wearing a black and white jester's hat if you happen to see me :P Managed to swap it for his spaceman's hat at one point, legend!!
Such a good crowd there, and i kind of liked the lack of organisation on the whole, just meant the festival felt like it was an even better place to let loose and go cracy :D the toilets, didin't really bother me that much, there was always toilet rolls in the back ones so wasn't a problem and whilst the taps ran out all of the stall who were selling drinks were kind enough to fill up our water bottles for free when we asked. not sure what everyone was complaining bout really, there were even closer to the dance floor than the taps!!

And agreed, the lasers on the hill at nighttime were spectacular 8)

Yes - in agreeance.

The sound was great (which is admittedly unusual, and refereshing) & the laser on the hill, while it lasted, was great too. Thats it.
Ive done an awful lot of festivals (as has Pesh)& there was just no effort here & they were lucky the people were so lovely or it wouldve completely fallen to bits. I wont be going next year, there are way too many amazing little festies out there that do a whole lot better.

Mind i had an awesome time with my gorgeous friends, whom i cant thank enough :)

I dont understand why people didnt think it was fun? To me it was almost as good as glade - but in a very different way...

I wasnt too bothered by the "bad" stuff..it was fairly trivial. Although more people dancing during the daytime would have been nice :clever:

PS - Hove, Joyous? I'm Hove born and bred, me! :D

There wasnt 'bad' stuff, there just wasnt enough stuff. No effort, no extras, a vast emptiness, except for the dance tents. yes i know we go for the music, but i also go for a whole lot more. A few flags out of some tatty recycling box. That was it. Nothing good to look at except the laser which didnt make it thru to sunday... Lack of seating place to make it easier to spend time in the arena when gravity failed you. No Effort. When i look at how amazing all the other festivals i have been to this year looked. What a pleasure it was to be walking around them. I know they had tight budget but some of it was miss spent for sure. I didnt want to be in that arena at all.

It was like a big free rave in a field but very not free.

Not for me next year, i will spend my money on a festival that i will enjoy when im not dancing as well.

Exulus - you still on Brighton then?

I agree with you on that actually - I remember turning up on friday morning and just thinking "well..there's not really much to look at is there" - but the natural beauty around was pretty nice..especially on the Saturday and Sunday afternoon! The big space in the middle did feel vast and empty..but it proved a very good dark spot during the evenings to sit and chill not far away from the music ;)

Unfortunately not at the moment :( But I do go back to visit all the time! You know the Volks? Thats like my 2nd home :)

I do understand all these points but it does strike me that we're all getting a lot fussier about festivals nowadays. This may partly be caused by the sharp increase in ticket prices over the past few years, partly by the growing list of sound and Elfnsafety restrictions, plus maybe an element of festival fatigue?

I dunno, it's just that once upon a time Glade was the electronic dance music festival, the one that had the vibe that Glasto had lost, then that went stale for a lot of people, then Sunrise and Waveform were where it's all at. Now people are saying Sunrise@BC was a disappointment and that Waveform was an epic fail.

It was a mudpit, the car parking was a minor disaster, the toilets were frankly awful, and yeah, there wasn't much decor.

But i had a fantastic time. I loved the lasers on the hill, the music was fab, and honestly the site was fucking pretty without much STUFF.

And there was a really nice atmosphere for most of the weekend, although it got kinda scary on sunday night, when a lot of people seemed to have gotten a bit aggro after security tried to make an arrest up by the tea tent.

I'll be going back next year and putting the less-awesome bits down to teething problems with a new small festival.

I agree. For me the points that people are complaining about were only minor and didn't inhibit me having an ridiculous amount of fun in any way. tbh, i wouldn't really care if glade suffered the same problems as waveform did if it meant that they could have an all night music liscense and no sound restrictions (which upset my festival experience far more than the 'problems' at waveform)

For me all the important bits were there: good music on a high quality soundsystem played at a proper volume throughout the festival, lots of interesting bands and djs i had never heard before, a beautiful setting, great visuals and light displays in all of the tents, and a wonderful vibe throughout the festival both from the organisers and the festival goers. I can sacrifice having a shit in a slightly dodgy portaloo if it means i can have all this :D

*slightly* dodgy portaloo? You mean hovering above the eternal pit of doom with nothing but a bit of cardboard from the local skip covering your pleasurables from the onlooking crowd? :fear:

I agree though..i thought it was an awesome festival...none of the bad bits put me off in any way!
