Hopes of an early reconciliation between Canadian breakcore artist Venetian Snares and key personnel at The Glade, following last year’s walk-off, seem as remote as ever.
For those who aren’t familiar with the story, there were issues with the sound on the Overkill stage last year because of a combination of the worst storms England had seen in half a century and other technical problems meaning that the intended sound rigs could not be used. Venetian Snares was upset about the quality and level of the sound on his monitors, there was an on-stage dispute, culminating in a shortened set and bad feelings all round.
There had been speculation in some quarters that with Ned Overkill’s conciliatory tone during last year’s controversy about the walk-out, and the prospect of a state-of-the art sound system for the Overkill Stage this year, that everyone could kiss and make up as soon as this year.
This always seemed unlikely to GT but a forum post by Overkill stage manager Ed Punksi appears to have knocked that particular rumour stone dead. However, he does add that this year’s line-up is looking “fan-farkin-tastic….just you wait you lucky people!”
Further news on that front from Ned is that some of the Overkill line-up will be announced in the next couple of weeks, so stay tuned.
